    Moving from cot to bed

On Saturday we moved DS2 from cot to bed - well we converted his cot to a bed.

Saturday night was ok he fell out once but went to sleep ok.

Last night was a disaster. It took 90 mins to get him to sleep (normally 30min tops) and then he woke up and walked in to our room at 1230 and was awake til about 3 with us trying to get him to sleep etc. He woke up completely and decided it was awake time.
I'm worried he will do something dangerous while we are asleep.
I can't put him back in the cot, he climbs out and it's dangerous.

I thought about a safety gate but I'm worried he will climb over it.

have you got a rail to put on the side so he doesnt fall out?

I was going to suggest a rail on the side or a safety gate.
Can he open his door, if not will he sleep with the door shut?

Could you try getting him to sleep on the mattress on the floor so then if he rolls off it's not a big drop and then he can also get use to the bounds of the mattress without worry he's falling out?
We put DD1's mattress on the floor for some time before she went into her bed and she never got out and came to our bed (only now that she can open her door).

Yep, we could do the mattress thing.
It's not an issue in the day, he doesn't get out its only at night.
He sleeps with his door closed, but he can open it himself.
he just screams and cries for us and won't stay in there at night whereas before he was quite happy to self settle and re settle in the cot

Have you thought of putting a privacy lock on the door on the outside.....like those that go on the toilets and bathroom door handles, baby proof his room maybe?

DH put the cot sides back on while I was at work and moved the furniture around. :/
I don't see how putting it off is going to help.

We have a single bed and a trundle in his room. As well as the cot.

The issue now is because we had one hard night DH has cracked it, put the cot back together and refuses to allow him to go into a bed because it's all to hard

DS1 was a perfect night sleeper who never attempted to get out of bed - DH now think this is normal, and there must be something wrong with DS2 or he's not ready for a bed.
