Morning everyone,
DD2 has had loose watery poos for 3 days now. I have been using pawpaw on her bottom between poos but it's now got so acidic that her bottom is burnt and is open in some spots.
So what foods should I be avoiding and increasing? She loves mandarines but I will cut them out because of the acidity. What about apple juice? She likes to drink it diluted with water. We only eat multigrain bread but every poo has the grains and seeds in it. Obviously her body is just passing whatever goes in strait out without digesting it.
Apart from her sore bottom she is still her usual active self and is wanting to eat. Poor thing breaks my heart when I'm changing her though, she cries and whimpers and says sore :-(
Thanks for your replies
My 15 month old DD had same thing, and i was worried about food allergies/intolerances but when we went to the mchn, she thnks it is cos she has 4 eye teeth (i think that's what they are called) coming through. it also gives her a rash on her face that comes and goes.
I usually use cloth nappies but when DD has had the nasty rash i have gone to disposables so i can use a barrier cream like bepanthanon or the other white one you get samples of in all the baby bags. They seem to help clear up the rash quicker than paw paw.
hope she feels better soon.
ETA- just a quickie, are you breastfeeding? i see that your new bubba is nearly due, if you are breastfeeding, the colustrum could be affecting your DDs poos.
Hi hotl, thanks for your reply. She's 18 months and has all her teeth so it's not that.
She hasn't bf for about 7 months. Is it sudocream you were talking about? I'll go and check if I have any, I'm only using pawpaw cause it was easy to find lol.
I don't think she's got an intolerance to a particular food as nothing has really changed - I think she has picked up a bug but just wondered if there were foods to avoid or increase to help regulate her bowel.
I would suggest avoiding dairy and richly flavoured food but thats based more on tummy upsets than anything else. Probably offer more starchy foods? poatatos, breads pasta etc.
for her bum, have you ever tried the Moogoo MSN cream? we use that on just about everything here.
Hi Ubba!
Sounds exactly like A's recent poo problem. Stop dairy and see what happens. He was always fine with it then suddenly couldn't handle it. Maybe R is having the same problem? I know how horrible it is when they're in pain it's just awful. Just keep an eye out to make sure there is no undigested bits of food or if it's really smelly as that can be a sign of Giardia.
Hope her little bot bot feels better soon xxx
Oh and on the nappy rash, until you find out what is causing the yucky poos I think you'll have a hard time getting rid if the rash. Nothing worked here.. At all. We tried everything. It only started to clear up when the poos stopped xxxx
Thanks Stoked, as soon as it started happening I thought of you straight away and was going to ask you how it all turned out. Did you put him back on dairy?
It's strange actually, her poo isn't unpleasant like diahorrea, it sort of smells sweet if that makes sense?
I found a sample tube of bepanthen and a sample tub of sudocreme in my bounty bag. I put the sudocreme on and where the rash is worst it just slid right over the top of it.
I'll give her a break from dairy for a couple of days and see how she goes
No he is still off most dairy. Cows milk and yoghurt are big no-no's. He does cope with a little bit of cheese (usually in cooking) but if he has too much the next day the poos start again. I will wait a few months before I try him on cows milk again.
If it is a dairy intolerance you'll notice a difference within 24-48 hours. It took 24 hours for us to notice.
Hope little R feels better soon xxx
If it's not teething poos, it sounds like it could be Toddler Diahrroea My youngest has it (and in hindsight DD2 had it as well) and eating too much fruit and any fruit juice at all is a problem. He also can't have food that are too high in fibre so grain bread and muesli bars are out as he will pass them almost undigested.. He will still have a bad day with loads of really runny poos but I can pin point it to what food or drink he has had. It is not considered to be a drama as such - his paed said to just keep an eye on it and most kids will grow out of it.
Thanks Trill, I thought of that too as my DS had it too - just seems different to then.
I guess I'll cut out a food for a few days and see if it is a food. I just want the blisters to heal on her poor bottom.
