    Post Man driving me nuts.....

Okay, so I know I'm going to sound fussy, but our postie is driving me nuts. He used to ride his bike up to the letterbox, drop the mail in, then ride up the really slight incline in front of the letterbox, carving a big deep track into the lawn for about 1/2 a metre.

I realise I never said anything then when it bugged me.

A few weeks ago we had a low concrete garden edge laid in front of the letter box, but left a more then wide enough space for him to drive right up, he could drop the mail in, then just back up a tiny bit and drive on.

Nope. He's started going up over the edging and leaving an even bigger gouge of dirt and grass as he drives off.

Best way to tackle it? Do I just stake out the letterbox and ask him to stop doing it? Am I within my rights to ask him?

Ask him to stop - we asked our postie to stop driving on own lawn b/c it was leaving a large line of dead grass and it looked terrible (hubby worked in the turf industry then) and he stopped, he now drives around, on the road then on the footpath to the letterbox

Say something to him, if it continues ring the PO that he works for and lodge a complaint

Is the damage he's causing on the footpath? Cause the footpath doesn't belong to you so you have no right to complain, if it's in your yard, then yes, you could complain. Technically your mail box should be totally accessible from the footpath, he shouldn't have to go into your yard to deliver mail. If he does have to, he could request the mail box be shifted. I suppose to have to stop and back up for every mail box could become pretty annoying and time consuming on a whole mail run. Hope he's not a Newman!

Nope no footpaths here, and it's well and truly on our land. And I'm not asking him to back up at every mailbox, just mine

I do get what you mean though. I will just ask nicely if he can stop doing it, he's been doing it for 4 days (since we took the markers down to protect the drying edge) and the track is huge, I can't imagine what it would be like soon with him doing it every day.

Either ask him to stop it, or another option is, can you move your letter box so it's more accessable to him?

We have problems with that here too - and we were getting in trouble for it from the estate for having this big gouge in our lawn even though it was clearly not us making it since our driveway is on the other side of the house (corner block)! I said something to the postie and he ignored me so I had to say something to Australia Post...and they ignored me. I told the estate that it wasn't us it was the postie and that I'd spoken to him personally and Australia Post and it was still happening so if they had a problem with it take it up with AP. A week later, it stopped happening.

But if you ask politely I'm sure they wont mind.

It's a huge bricked in mailbox with planter, and it is easily accessible. I will ask politely and see what happens, and take it from there.

I actually think if he was just a bit mindful about how he accelerates away, it wouldn't happen. And I know he has hundreds of mail boxes to service, but it's not like he can't see the damage he's doing each day. Maybe we can come up with a solution together.
