    Would you recommend a vaporizer???

    Hi everyone,
My DD has a cold and a cough and I was wondering if I should invest in a vaporizer. Do you have one? Does it help? What are the pros and cons of using a vaporizer? Which brand do you have?

    Thanks

A million times over! They are awesome for even a small cough to a full blown cold...

I forget to use ours now but they definitely are worth it and work well especially when they struggle to breathe when all stuffed up.

Ours has been a godsend the past few nights. DD has a shocking cough (which Dr says doesn't need ABs :S ) and wasn't getting a proper sleep due to coughing all night.
Since we have had the vaporiser on she has been sleeping much better!!

I was lucky enough to not have to buy mine, my Mum gave me one she used for my brothers and it still works a treat! It's a Eukybear one and is about 12 yrs old!

Yep ... so much so that I am buying a second one. When the kids are sick, I really need one in each room.

They are a godsend for newborns and young babies because they can only have panadol, not decongestants. I also find it means that my older kids don't need decongestants to help them sleep if we have the vapouriser on. If I am sick, and they aren't, I use it for me. Especially because I have had five years of back to back pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is about the only thing I can use for relief from colds and so I have loved it for me too

Love ours too. We have the Vicks one and I've just recently bought the Vicks oil to go in it but haven't used the oil yet. DD has a runny nose again and the doctor said her ears are quite pink too so looks like she has another virus and we'll be busting out the vapouriser tonight

We have loved ours in the past but can't really use it in our new place because it is already quite damp and I'm unwilling to introduce more moisture into the house. BUT I still use the inhalant mixture on a cloth nappy and hang it in their room - that works too, just not as famously.
The only thing to be aware of with vaporisers is the burn risk. Not a risk as far as I'm concerned when they're in a cot. But if they're in a bed you'll probably want to put it up high (and make sure you wipe the ceiling cause it will likely get very mouldy, lol!)
We have the Euky Bear one too and haven't had any problems with it. I do love it and am quite sad I can't use it in our current house.

I cant speak more highly of a good vaporizer I never used 1 for DD but when DS has croup over the winter holidays it worked wonders and her was better in a couple of days

Snacks the vicks ones don't get hot, just warm, the lid also clicks on. I wouldn't be inclined to put one up high incase they pull on the chord and it comes down on them.

We had the Vicks one and locking it in place wasn't easy. We upgraded to the Allersearch one which was slightly more expensive but heaps easier to use. Plus it has a bigger water tank that keeps it going all night. I air the room out in the morning but find the night's sleep is soooo much better using one. Don't wake up clogged!

After five years of no cold medication due to pg and bfing and now back on that bandwagon I don't know what I'd do without mine. Great for DD too.
