    Chicken pox help!!!!!

Miss dd who is 3 has chicken pox. She has her 18 month varicella jab and the dr says he has never seen such a bad case after the vax

Poor poppett is saying they hurt. She has one On the corner of her mouth. One in the corner of her eye, 2 on her genitals, one on her tongue and another I spotted on her gum inside her cheek.

And of course around 100 or so more everywhere else.

I've never seen or had chicken pox (had my vax 3 weeks ago) so how can I help her, particularly the eye and mouth ones...... Even in her ear??

We do calamine and pine tar bath solution but she won't eat or drink and the drinking is really a problem because she is getting dehydrated her lips are all dry and cracking already

I went to the dr today, he said she can go back to child care Monday but wasn't all the helpful with remedies for now. Should I be worried? Is there more I can do? The pintarsol seems to be working a treat on her body but doesn't help other areas obviously. Is there anything I should be watching for that might require another dr visit?

    Tia I'm such a worrywart

I don't think there is much else you can do. If dehydration is an issue, can you get some of that Hydralite (?) or something similar from the Chemist? My DH has chicken pox really bad too & even had them down his throat, I feel so bad for your little one

DS had bad chicken pox 18m ago, he had just turned 3 too.

He also has bad eczema so we ended up using a lot of oilatum in his baths (we had 2-3 hour-long baths together every day as they calmed him a lot and helped with the hydration) and also gave him baby piriton to stop the itching. Yes, it is an anti-allergy, but the doctors said that was great and had me make DS a drink of water laced with baby piriton, neurofen jr and calpol. Distraction is also great - we had Cars on full time (even all night) for 4-5 days.

Things to watch out for - temperature that won't cool even stripped/outside, laboured breathing (the spots get in the lungs too), lips turning blue, spots getting infected when they've scabbed over (not always due to scratching: DS had problems just rolling over in his sleep).

Your DD shouldn't get them as bad as DS, but if you have any worries get her checked out - chicken pox can kill, even at age 3. I would recommend co-sleeping too, just so you can keep a close eye overnight.

I feel so silly not thinking of hydralite I think we have some in the cupboard too. Thanks.

I haven't heard of any of the stuff you mentioned flying..... Will ask the chemist.

She is on baby zyrtek for the itching and panadol. I'm using DVDs as a distraction lol. I don't think she has EVER watched so much tv ever. In fact it goes to show her lack of DVD collection when we have watched wiggles birthday and dora dancing about 6 times each in the last few days lol. I went to the video store tonight and hired a few. She has 3 big ones on her bum and refuses to sit so she is literally laying doing nothing.

It's scary to think they can get in het lungs. I knew about the eyeballs but wow!!!

Well I'm off to sleep (if you can call it that) next to my spotty duck

There is some gel stuff at the chemist (that I can't for the life of me remember the name of, sorry!) that works alot better than calamine.
Sorry, not much help but I'm sure they'll know what you mean if you ask!
Hope she is feeling better soon, poor little thing

I could suggest teething gel on the ones in her mouth as it has a local anaesthetic BUT I don't know for sure that you can use it with anything else you are using so check if you do want to do that Poor little thing. Hope she is better soon.

I just want to cry now.

I'm not feeling the best, sore throat tired just a cold I think.

She woke with secondary conjunctivitis from the one on her eye.

She scratched one on her chin till it bled so we can look forward to a nice big scar and her mouth is all swollen I can't believe there is nothing we can do. We are at day 4 and she is still getting new spots.

It's so heartbreaking and so infuriating how she got them, I'm ready to blow at the person who continued to sleep with her when they knew they had pox. Not even a call to let us know.
