Ive been doing my tax every year since I needed too, and in the last couple of years I've been doing DHs too.
Every year it seems to get harder and more complicated... (I'm using eTax too).
Now, I'm currently stuck on section T5 - Private Health Insurance.
I have basic cover with NIB, now I havent recieved anything from them... am I meant to get a statement from them with what I've claimed etc?? do I need to put that in this bit?
This year I have actually used it a little bit with our IVF, while i'm not covered I could claim a bit in terms of day surgery for egg pickup and anethetists etc.. So seen as I have actually used it I'm sure I have to put that somewhere.
Plus I know if you dont have private health insurance it affects your tax so I want to make sure it knows I do have it.
The medicare bits were prefilled and my claims etc were fine and sorted.
But just worried about this Private Health Insurance bit. Was I meant to have got something from them to say what i claimed? if I haven't do I have to wait til day light hours to call them and get something from them?
THANKS!!!!
ps. expect more help me questions later as I'm sure I'll get stuck again =)
You don't have to tell the ATO what you have or haven't claimed.
They are only interested in the number of days in the year that you were covered and the provider code(s) - if you'd changed providers you would have a code for each of them.
It's sounds like you just need the code for NiB and you list how many days you were covered.
You should have gotten an email from NIB with a link to your statement online, you should be able to log onto the NIB site to check statements anyway. My tax agent only wanted my membership number for my PHI to do my tax.
Thanks girls!!
That helps me heaps, and makes it easy cause I have been with them for years, so should be the same as last time right? and makes it so much easier now I don't need actual numbers.
Ill check my email Sopdet.
THANKYOU!!!!
