I have always known/thought that when I owned a place I would name it "Valhalla". But in my mind it was an actual property. We currently only have a house. But I can't name it something else...it needs to have "Valhalla" in it..
DH was thinking about it and he suggested "Penratta", being our footy teams merged. (Penrith and Paramatta). I like it I think its clever and unique.
So basically is "Penratta Valhalla" too long? I'm sure if I just said to DH, I just want Valhalla, he would say "name it whatever you want I dont care" but I do want to give him some say (esp. seen as I have all the kids named already and he knows the only input he gets with their names is like their 2nd middle name. - he is ok with that as he has already used all the names he likes anyway with his other kids...anyway back on topic).
My parents named our family home after they ahd been in it for 10 years and had finished having kids. they actually created a word from the first initials of all our names and its brilliant. It's "kraDen" then when we all moved they umm and ahhed about whether they could take the name with them. they ended up doing it and calling the 2nd home "KraDen Too" (playing on the word Too/Two)
I do like the idea of something unique to us, not just a generic one..
Who here has a name for their house?? is it just the house or do you have a property too?
I've never really thought of naming my house, though I have always wanted "Valkyrie" as my numberplate on my car if I ever splashed out for personalised ones. So I quite like Valhalla, but I'd be inclined to save it for the dream property to be honest. Penratta by itself is an interesting name as well.
Growing up on farming properties, they're often referred to by various names - when I was young the main farm where the house was was called "Whyalla", we also now have "Beers" (people we bought it from were named Beer) and "Dalmoor" (which is on the Dalwallinu/Moora border). Never found out where Whyalla came from other than it's a place in South Australia, but that didn't explain a farm in WA being called that.
