    What would you do?

DD has been in her big bed since 2 (shes 3 at the end of october) and to start with we put a bed rail on even though DF thought she didnt need one. I dissagreed and on it went. Anyway, last week, after asking her, we took it off.

I wasnt convinced she was ready as she moves around quite alot in her sleep and her bed is quite high off the ground. I thought it might have been my over protectiveness coming out so I agreed we took it off. We put the cot mattress next to the bed incase she did fall out.

She fell out on the 2nd night.. hysterical (obviously..). 3rd, 4th and 5th night, she came close (Im an obsessive checker so I got in there just as she was super close to the edge).

Yesterday she was in a, lets call it... "testing mummys patience" kind of mood. Drew all over the cot mattress with black texta (ugh). So she lost the mattress.

Lastnight, she fell out.. twice. Straight onto the floor.

I havent told DF about lastnight yet because I know he will just say to give it time but I want to put the rails back on. But is that like 4 steps forward, 10 steps back?? She doesnt sleep at all during the day so both her and I need her night time sleep to be un-interupted by falling out of bed IYKWIM. Also.. im freaking shes going to do some damage like break an arm or something.. shes so clumsy as it is.

So would you put the rails back on???

I'd put the rail back on IMO. I don't see any harm in it being there.

She's still only little, so give it a bit more time with the rail on. It's not hurting anyone

I'd put the rail on and try again in 6 months. I have the view - don't sweat the small stuff. A bed rail isn't important in the scheme of things.

I'm with the others. Put it back on. It's not hurting her having it there. You'll get her on side by telling her that having it there will stop her falling out and hurting herself. A head injury in the middle of the night is not cool.
Neither is having to get out of bed unnecessarily when you're really pregnant.

I would also put the rail back on for the time being But I remember my sister putting a pillow under the mattress (could've even have been under the fitted sheet) for my oldest nephew when he went into a single bed. So there was a little incline which stopped him rolling out ITMS.

Yeah, put it back on. Perhaps you could go with a smaller step like CheezelMonster suggested. I didn't go with a bed rail at all. I was recommended to use a pool noodle under the fitted sheet - worked perfectly for DD and I totally recommend it every time people mention bed rails! Costs $5 and is really all they need to feel that they're about to go over the bed and roll back the other way.

I'd put it back on. DS has a racing car bed that comes up in the middle- designed to prevent toddlers from rolling out of bed xxx

I'd put it on... my DS1 still has his (he will be 4 in sept) - he never uses one when we are away and doesnt fall out of bed... but at home I hadnt even thought about taking it off...

Put it on and save yourself some stress, she is still so little. We have one on dd1's bed as it's really high it's not a big deal.

I don't think it is going backwards, it's a learning thing like anything and she is still very young. DS was 4 in April, we took his off when we moved in March. It would prob still be on if we had not moved LOL!

No it is not going backwards. Depends on the child, as you say she moves around alot. My dd moved in her sleep and could end up sideways in the bed until she was about 6 so prone to falling out up until then. But some children never move. If she is falling out, she needs the rail.
