    I'm a Murderer....

I've been looking after my cousin's menagerie for the past 6 weeks, and I've followed her instructions to the letter. But this morning when I went to feed the unidentified number of goldfish, 2 were floating belly up Their bellies are really bloated and their eyes are popping out.

I know there's more fish in there because I saw them swimming around, but they're swimming lethargically and didn't eat any of the food I put in there. Am I gonna go feed them tomorrow and find them all dead?

The same thing happened to me i was sitting for my MIL expensive tropical fish. Two died so I went out and bought her new ones then a week after she returned, she rings me and says the neigbours cat had eaten her fish "Oh well didnt really like them anyway". I vowed next time instead of buying new ones I would just confess lol

Get the water tested, hun. It's probably easiest just to take it to an aquarium shop or pet shop, but you can buy a kit to test it yourself. Probably worth doing a water change/tank clean after having it tested, just in case the fish were sick too.

PS Take note of which fish were dead, because some are more sensitive than others. My goldfish seem to have the stamina of warriors, but the sucker fish are the first to go if there's something off in my tank.

Definitely test the water. We had that happen here 2 weeks ago as my son wasn't checking the PH levels in the tank and we lost 2 fish due to the alkalinity in the tank.

Keike, you do realise that anything you say here can be used against you in a court of law?!

    *snort*

It's an outside pond, so I can't take the aquarium in. She's home tomorrow, so I've cleared out some of the clovery stuff that was on top of the water, and put a couple of buckets of fresh water in. Her brother also recommended watching them for the day to make sure they don't drown

"Your honor, the defendant had a clear disregard for the natural environment of the said fish, by her own admission haphazardly clearing out some of the "clovery stuff" (a true fish lover would know it's name!) and throwing in "a couple of buckets" of water into the pond!! Water! In a pond!!! Clearly she is not of right mind as she actually admits contemplating spending an ENTIRE DAY watching the poor little creatures in case they drowned. I submit to the court that she was actually HOPING they would drown and that she actually had a handicam ready just in case "

    Guilty.

Don't worry, I think I may soon find our tank less two fish as well... The older bigger fish didn't seem too happy when I put the new little fish in today :-/
