    Please Help !

My son is sick and his temp has been in the range of 37 degrees all day. I have bathed him and used a face cloth to try and cool him but hes still burning up and noticably sick.. he isnt even talking much. I am making sure he keeps up his fluids though...

He just registered at 38 degrees

Hes 2 yrs 10 months old... At what point should I go to hospital? What temp?

I have tried calling the hospital but they are rude and told me to call the medical help line instead and kept tranferring me around instead of answering my questions about his temp..

I have a newborn so I didnt want to wait in hospital for hours but if need be I of course will...Help please

Our drs was closed when I tried to call and the tomorrow will be even worse trying to find a dr....

38 isn't too bad - 36-37.5 is considered normal. Are you sure your thermometer is registering right? I think he would be much higher thant 38 if he feels really hot to touch. I would get concerned when it gets closer to 39. Keep up the sponging down.

Take him to the hospital. A toddler can get very ill very quickly with a temp. The fact that he is not talking is not good.

They should see him straight away.

Last time DD was really crook I called the Nurse on call and the lovely nurse told me 38-39 is ok and the body fighting the bug but if she was to crack 40 them head to the hossy. Have you tried the nurse on call or equivalent to where you are?

Dd just had two days of 39.6 degree temps. She was lethargic but otherwise ok. A fever in itself isn't a worry because it is the body's way of fighting illness. Febrile convulsions are what most people worry about, so a dose of panadol to bring his temp down would be ok.

I hope he feels better soon. And congrats on the bub!

I personally don't worry about 38 degrees, so long as they are not hard to wake. If they look miserable or reach 39-40 I give them panadol to bring the temp down.

I would try to bring the temp down by giving panadol too.

39 degrees and I'd be off to a Dr or Emergency Dept if you couldn't get it down but I would still try even a combination of Panadol followed by Neurofen before I did that.

Its horrid when they get sick like this.
