Question Poo that burns & sloppy too

DS is almost 16 months old.

For about the last six weeks his poos have been very runny and stinky. Today his skin looks very red & in one patch burned. He did a two poos this afternoon (unusual for him) and screamed like crazy after each one. Because they are so runny they spread everywhere & he is red all over.

    It looks so painful.

The nurse at the local clinic when I asked about the sloppy poos said it must be teething but I am a bit tired of people saying everything is teething. What if it is not about teething?

He has a very healthy diet - eats lots of fruit, veg, fish, whole grains....no added sugars, salt & doesn't get sweets (only home-made muffins like carrot & zuchhini or apply & blackberry but with no or less sugar than recipes). He still breastfeeds once a day (cut down from from 3 to 1 about six weeks ago..not sure if there is a correlation...cut down was his choice, not mine).

Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?

It sounds like something acidic. Does he eat a lot of apples or dried fruit?

I would reduce the amount of fruit he eats and try and get him to eat more meat and bread or cereal or rice or pasta...things that will bulk it out a bit.

Otherwise, does he eat a lot of dairy? Maybe he is allergic to the lactose enzyme in cows milk...it would make sense if you have been supplementing the breastfeeds with cows milk.

    Good luck!

My immediate thoguht was teething, but I can see why that answer would be getting frustrating after this long! Maybe as Arcadia suggested, something acidic.. I know with DS2, he went through a stage where he loved mandarines but we had to ban them from his diet.

Apart from that a good barrier cream might help, poor little guy, those blistery poos are so horrible.

Have his molars come through? My DD iss similar age, and her poos were horrible as her molars came through over past month or so. i also questioned dairy intolerance and other things, but after the teeth came through the poos improved.

None of her other teeth created as many issues coming through.

Thank you all for your thoughts.

Fruit: He eats loads of it so I have reduced the amount today & will try for a few days to see if there is any difference. Fingers crossed.

Dairy: Yes, I have increased his dairy since he started bf less & I have considered he may have an intollerance. I am reticent to cut this without any hard evidence & will try the fruit reduction first. If cutting fruit doesn't change anything then I will look at cutting dairy.

Molars: He has them already but he is just getting one of his eye teeth. I know that many believe teething can cause these problems but my instincts tell me it is not teeting & he hasn't had this issue with any other teeth.

I will see how the fruit goes & work through it from there.

Fleur.....can you suggest how to deal with the 'burnt' skin? I have tried Sudocream, Paw Paw ointment & Bepanthum but nothing is working.

    Thanks.

no idea what can be causing my ssons got this when they had a reaction to anti - bi

I use the boobie cream lansonin (I'm sure you know what I mean the little purple tube a small amount applied to the red and burnt areas and generally within a nappy change you will see a difference also no wipes just warm water to clean the area till the redness subsides...it has always worked for us, pawpaw cream made it worse
