Firm finger foods for 1 yr old

What are your fav firm finger foods? DS is turning 1 and has only just got his 1st tooth pop through in the last couple of weeks. Until now finger foods have been limited to things that he couldn't choke on and stuff that he could gum away at easily. But he doesn't like picking up soft finger foods so that counts out cooked vegies but he doesn't have enough teeth to really break down hard vegies yet either. Things like bread, cheese, strawberries, kiwi fruit, banana, crackers and muffins have been great but I wanted to start cooking things that I could cut up into firmer finger foods that he can enjoy feeding himself with. So maybe savory slices, bakes? I don't really know? Any ideas would be great

Zucchini Slice? Meatballs with lots of grated veg in them? Homemade Chicken & Fish Nuggets? Those kinds of things? All are very easy to make at home and add lots of veggies to, my DS loves them!

Ok, so I know some of these don't involve cooking but...
Zucchini and vege slice, frittatas, quiche, omelettes, french toast or just a straight boiled egg cut into quarters. You've already mentioned muffins, but they're so versatile and freeze well! Vege pancakes? Vege pasta bake with spirals or penne? Rissoles/meatballs/burgers/patties etc (DS liked lentil burgers for awhile there). Lasagne? Cheese sauce for dipping the veges into. Cheese on toast (I sneak in things like chopped spinach) with mashed avo. Sultanas? Dates? Olives? Tomato? Cucumber?

Have you tried mucking around with how much you cook/present the veges? I know DS likes some less cooked, and some more (if they're too hard he won't eat them, so stir fries are still out, but if the zucchini for e.g. is too soft, he prefers playing with it to eating it!). Keep presenting the veges too - it took DS about 20 goes to like some veges, and some he'll eat on some days but not others, depending on his mood. The shape makes a difference to him too - he won't eat banana sliced, but will sometimes peel and munch on his own. Some days the strawberries are sliced, some days they have to be whole. If he sees us eat it, he'll try it, so eating together is a must. A friend's DD won't eat 'squishy' finger food either, but put it on a fork and she devours it! I know another girl who eat all sorts of food without teeth (e.g. chops!) so you might be surprised at what he'll get through.

when i am feeling decadent with the kids i whip out the puff pastry and do vegemite and cheese twists in the oven.

lamb chops. they love gumming their way through it (that's if you guys eat meat of course).

sandwiches! DD2 loves her sammies lol.

You might be surprised what he can mange with no teeth. Neither of mine had teeth until late.
Have you tried cooking the vegies less?
    Arancini
    Baked polenta with grated vegies
    chicken tenders crumbed and baked

Thanks for the ideas girls, keep em coming

I have tried him with loads of different finger foods, textures and softness/firm etc but the type of foods that I have mentioned are what he can handle and I've often thought that it's a good thing I wasn't doing baby lead solids as he wouldn't have been eating much! today I'm going to make a zucchini slice but put it into the mini muffin trays. JLeigh be prepared to have your brain picked on Sunday a DS's party!!!!

Not sure if you've done the slice yet, but I found DS had trouble with the muffins and mini muffins at first unless I broke off the crustier outside bit. Once he got through to the middle it was all good. I ended up making things as one big slice at first, then used the muffins as he got a bit older. Does that make sense? Can't wait 'til Sunday!

Yep that makes sense, I haven't made them yet not sure if I'll get time today either. ds has muffins at the moment, does egg type stuff crust up on the outside? I might make a small batch and see how I go, just think they might be easier. YAY see you Sunday!!! I'm insane with excitement as you can imagine lol
