    Question Paediatrician or GP?

DD (nearly 3) is going down hill fast with her sleeping - its been bad for a while but now its just horrible! She is so tiered all the time and its impacting on her behaviour... she doesnt eat much and she is acting out. She is just not her self at all.

I know its probably a vicious cycle of not sleeping, not eating and then getting so run down that is just goes round and round in a circle.

I have bought some Brauers Childrens calm to try tonight to see if we can break the dodgy sleep cycle - I think if she was getting her full nights sleep she would be heaps better! She just looks so worn out! Has any one had success with this??

I can get her into either a GP or her Paed that she saw when she was little - who would be better??

    TIA
    Kate

Chances are you will need to see a GP first so you get a referral, especially if it has been more than 6 months since your last one. I know our local Paed rooms wont even give an appt without sighting the referral.

I have found Brauers calm helpful in the past, not a miracle but it did make a difference. I would also look at what she is eating, even if not much, as that could have a major effect on her behaviour and sleep. Check out Fed Up with food additives for an idea. I know DD1 had an issue with 160b (annatto)

Thanks Astrid. Ill ring the rooms on Monday. Im sure the receptionist told me once on the books that I can make appointments whenever we need but I could be wrong. We have just had DS there a few weeks ago maybe that will make a difference? Ill also look into that book. Thanks xo

dimetapp works to put iz to sleep! found that out by trying to releive her cold a bit and will admit to using it a few times when we've had bad runs of no sleep.

    try magnesium too hun..!

TBH i doubt a dr will be able to help, you probably need a bedtime schedule that suits you all and stick to it, start a new routine and be paitent as it may take time to establish

From personal experience, if there is something (like a food allergy/intolerance) no amount of routine will help. Take away the problem and only then does the routine fall into place. The problem I have found with GP'/Paeds is that they are mainstream. So they either dismiss, or they look at the standard medications (eg in a baby, they tend to blame everything on reflux, so prescribe for that).

An Osteo may be of help.

Sorry to hijack. Olive where do you get Magnesium Spray from?

Kate - what is happening - lots of wake up's or hard to get to sleep in the first place. Does she still have her day nap?

Boo Boo - She takes forever to go to sleep at night - no matter what we try (bed, couch our bed) and then wakes for at least 2 hrs at midnight and then can have more wake ups. She still has a day nap for 1-2 hrs a day.

How is she if she does not have a nap? Maybe she only needs a nap every second day or so.

DS has stopped his day naps - he is the same age - but I would say he does need one prob every 3 days. Do you have a cd player in her room she could listen to stories to, to help her wind down? The waking up at midnight for a couple of hours is the tough one though, more stories on the cd player....
