    She just doesn't get it

Dd1 is 2.5. She's been doing the occasional wee and poo on the potty for a few weeks now so I decided to take nappies away yesterday. Between yesterday and today we've gone thru about 20 pairs of undies. I don't get it. She sits on the toilet or potty every half hour. Most times shell do a wee. But then she's still Weeing more in between. She just thinks the undies are a different kind of nappy. When I change her she asks can I wee in this one? I say no this isn't a nappy it's undies, nut she just doesn't get it. And I think she doesn't understand how to hold on.
I don't want to go backwards and put nappies back on but im just not sure Shes getting it just yet
    Any advice please ?

She might be ready but just doesnt understand that undies arnt nappies.

DS has been great TT without pants on. He knows when he has to go and if he is naked he is great, not a single accident and he tell sme when he needs to go. We are progressing to wearing just pants. But sometimes with undies on he just kind of forgets that they arnt nappies and thats when we have accidents. Its been a really slow process of getting him to wear clothes and have no accidents. And just this week (one week today) we stopped using a nappy for poo's!! (he is 3 and a bit and we have been doing the TT for about a year now!!!!!)

I would say to try her naked, but honestly, doing that worked yes, but now i have to train him to wear clothes lol so i don't know if thats a good recommendation!! It may be she isnt 100% ready. So just go slow and dont expect too much to start with

DD1 is 2.5 as well. We started when she was 2, and we went naked -> pants without undies -> pants with undies as well. Worked great for us. Hope she learns for you soon, but don't start worrying yet, she is still young.

Look, I'm absolutely no expert on TT as my DD wasn't trained until 3.5 and even now she has accidents.
But, I have heard if you go cold turkey on the nappies it can take a week or more for them to get it. If it's only been 2 days you might find she's still working it out. Also, I've heard you should try not to whisk the undies off her after she wees in them - it's good for her to learn wet undies are VERY uncomfy and therefore it's worthwhile weeing on the toilet/potty instead. (This is something I didn't do with my DD - she was bigger and took her knickers off as soon as she wet/soiled them so she never got that lesson IYKWIM.)

Like some of the other pp's have said, maybe she isn't quite ready. I remember getting very stressed with DD as she just didn't seem to get it, till I decided to let it go and pop her back in nappies. Fast forward a couple of months and she all of a sudden requested knickers, which she would wear for half hour or so and then request a nappy, so I just rolled with it. By about day 3 of this, I heard a "i did it!" coming from the lounge (i always had the potty handy), within 3 days she was using the toilet for both wee's and poo's and we only had one accident in that 3 days.

    Good luck!

No expert here either but just thought I'd pass on the experience my BF is having at the moment.

She is trying to TT her 3.5 yo boy and has been on and off for months as they are going o/seas in a couple of months and really want him to be TT by then

When she first started he wasn't ready, and now, he is stubbonly refusing to learn, so from this my advice is don't push her if she is not ready as you may prolong her success, all kids TT in their own time, and in fact the average age of toilet training for Aussie kids is well over 3 yo anyway

have you got any toilet training story books? i saw them in kmart and dymocks type stores. Potty Training for Boys, Potty Training for Girls etc. we had one that had a musical button, and one that was a story about a little girl who was teaching her teddy bear how to go potty. My 2.5yo loved the books. She was too young to understand sticker charts, but she loved the books.

I took her from nappies to trainer pants (with absorbency in them) to catch accidents (e.g had to accomodate WHITE rental carpets, so i was paranoid). We did about a month of tt-ing in trainers, before introducing knickers.

i found it useful to hear what other people were doing with their toddlers, ended up trying HEAPS of things, before i worked out, which ones my child responded to. I found the website "tribal baby" very useful for hints too.

Timing is hard for a toddler, knowing WHEN to go. so we had a potty in the boot of the car, and a portable, foldup potty (a potette) in my tote bag, that went with us everywhere. Very useful when out in big public spaces, like botanic gardens, when it might be 500 m to the nearest loo, which might as well be a million km away for a toddler who needs to go RIGHT NOW MUMMY.
