I've decided to attempt couch to 5K. I would post a link, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed....
Anyone want to do it with me? I just completed the first session. I'd love some people who'd like to do it with me to help with accountability and motivation.
I did this for a while last year & it was GREAT! I still do some interval running but am trying to lose a bit of weight before a run too far again (I have put on a good 5kg since last year and my right hip gets so sore when I run - too much weight I think.)
Anyhoo, I can highly recommend it. (From a once complete non-runner!)
Fabfiona - i haven't downloaded any app. I just got the info off the Internet. I thought about downloading the app but I'm trying to keep track of my steps for each day on another app so didn't think it would be worth it.
Kimmy - I'm not a runner either but I like the thought of being able to do it. I'm hoping motivation will get me through lol
I'm going on Wednesday night at 7.45 pm. I'm at work tonight and having dinner with my brother tomorrow night.
Kids are normally asleep by 7.30 pm, we have dinner at 6 pm so plenty of time to digest and Glee is on at 8.30 pm. I reckon I'll mostly go in the evenings on weekdays as we have a pretty consistent routine and 7.45 pm is generally a good time for me.
I think I'll try the 'Get Running' app and go from there. I'll post back on if I like it or not.
I liked to run before I was pregnant the first time. Two kids in reasonably quick sucession have seen my time fly out the window. I now weigh 86 kg which is heavier than when I conceived with DS 2 (3 months).
Kimmi - care to join me on Wednesday? In spirit rather than physically!
Anyone who's done this - honestly, if you are so unfit that you get puffed, like just about hyperventilating puffed jogging a couple of hundred metres, is this program really going to do it for me?
I would like to try it, but I don't know that my body can cope with it!
Advice?
Liviam - It's called interval training. Basically you listen to a voice in your ear phones (you can download an iPhone app or tracks from the internet) and it tells you when to run and when to walk. At the start its more walking than running. So you might walk for 2 mins then run for 90 seconds. As the weeks progress the amount that you run increases slowly so you are getting used to it. Different versions have music or you can listen to your own.
Ausgirl - I reckon give it a go. I'm in the same boat as you!!! If you find its too much then take it slow. Do the first week for 2 weeks rather than one so you get used to it. Or work up to doing the full program - so the first time say you will do 15 minutes of a 30 minute program etc. As with anything it works if you stick with it. I'm hoping everyone here can keep me honest and help me get there. You in?
Yeah, okay, willing to give it a try! I don't have a fancy phone to download any ap to though, so I'll just download the page and print it out! When are you starting?
Fabfiona - I did the first session today at the local footy oval. I didn't jog fast, but I made it. In 20 mins I did 5.5 laps of the oval so not lightening speed but use read that the key is just to run - the speed will come later.
Ausgirl - I say give it a go. I've been reading the C25K forums and they say not to worry about speed - just keep going. It doesn't matter if you are basically jogging on the spot - when it's time to jog just jog. I read somewhere about someone jogging so slow up a hill they were overtaken by two old ladies walking along talking about oprah! The forums also state that it's ok to redo a week if you're not ready to move on. Give it a go. I tried to think of it as just a minute of running each time. Once I got to the last 10 mins there was no way I was giving up! (btw, I'm aiming to run 30 mins as opposed to 5k. I don't want to have to run fast lol). I started today. When do you think you'll attempt day 1?
Liviam - look it up - I'm not sure if im allowed to post links. It's basically interval training with the run/walk ratio slowly increasing until you can run 5k or 30 mins!

I have done it before and it is a good program. When I started it I was really unfit and it was good at increasing my fitness. I am in the middle of doing something similar now to try and get some speed up. I wouldn't say I am unfit as I am pretty active, but when I try to jog faster I certainly feel that way.
