I'm 23 weeks and for the last 3-4 nights, I have struggled to eat dinner, eaten nothing else all evening and gone to bed feeling like I ate a whale. Then, about 4 hours after falling asleep, I usually wake up with the whale-feeling gone but can't breathe properly and therefore can't sleep.
I've had the whale-feeling all night this time, but I got my 4 hours and then, BANG, right on cue, can't breathe properly so can't sleep. I breathe really deeply and still don't feel like I'm getting enough oxygen in. I'm guessing it's the baby pushing on my lungs.
I was a total zombie all yesterday and I find napping during the day difficult. I thought being so tired from the last 3 nights would make staying asleep easier, but nope!
Has this happened to anyone else? Does it get any better? I shudder to think of another 17 weeks of this! Is there anything I can do to alleviate it?
Dont stress too much about it. The more you worry about not sleeping, the more you wont sleep. You body wont starve you of sleep, you will sleep eventually. Even just laying in bed without sleeping is doing you good
The general rule of thumb is if you are awake for half an hour then to get up and do things and go back to bed when you start feeling tired again.
Thanks I can't sleep elevated though. I'm not comfortable in the same position for very long (whether pregnant or not) and I've tried being elevated before, it just doesn't work for me :P
But I do and will continue getting up for a bit, then going back to sleep. I think hayfever isn't helping either but I just found out it's safe to have Polaramine! So I'll see if that helps tonight too
