BABY weight, whats accetable or normal ?

I am currently about 30 weeks pregnnat and have gained about 6 and half kilos so far but the thing is that before i got pregnant i did a fresh cycle IVF/ ICSI and i gained 4 kg because of that.
so thats 10 kg all up

i was already overweight and i am concerned about how big i will get in the last 8 weeks or so. i usually have big babies and go early also ( 2 or 3 weeks)

    I gained 14 kg with DS1
    16 kg with DS 2
and 19 kg with DS 3

so i know what i have gained is not too bad but i started a LOT bigger this time and i am only 3 kg off the weigt i was hen i had DS 3 ?!

i feel so FAT and discusting but people keep telling me i look like i've lost size. except tummy and bust that is. LOL

I don't want to be an obese mum

The Birth centre said i can go up to 108 before i am over BMI of 35 which is just TOO FAT to have baby at birth centre

I am about 96 kg at the moment. so i have 12 kg to go before get TOO FAT. which is not likely to happen in 8 weeks .

what is normal for REAL women to gain ?

Your gains sound totally normal I lost weight in the first and second tri, and then put it all back on and then some in the third tri. I gained 13kg from my pre preg weight.

    Sounds very normal

I lost between 10-15kgs in the first 12 weeks i then went on to gain it back plus 8kgs and i was far from skinny pre pregnancy.

A book I have says 'normal' weight gain is anywhere from 8-20kg with the average being 12. From what I remember I didn't gain as much in the final few weeks so I wouldn't worry at all. Your really haven't gained much at all.

I gained 18-20kg both times and I have lost it all both times. I am a fairly average weight I guess.

I am short and pre baby was around 60 -65 kgs - with DD I put on 15kgs and with DS I put on 20 kgs. Don't forget that that is also baby (4.560kgs of baby for DS!!) and then fluid etc. I lost all my baby weigh within 2 weeks of having mine although everything seemed to change position on my body!

It sounds to me like a normal gain, but if you are worried I guess all you can do is make sure you eating healthy, sensible food most of the time ( i say most because I craved maccas and nothing was keeping me from those golden arches while pg). xoxox

I gained 30kg. Go me. I didn't eat well AT ALL in the last trimester, I've lost 26kg, but I've done a fair bit of toning so despite being 4kg off pre-preg I fit into pre-preg clothes (cept the boobs!).

I think anything is acceptable or normal if you are healthy and have no medical problems or indicators that may indicate something isn't right. I think the whole suggestion about there being a *right* amount of weight to gain during pg is unrealistic and it should be abolished because as soon as a women is outside of those parameters, then there is something wrong. Gain too much weight and you deal with "oh you're too fat to birth here/baby will be too big/fat women with fat vaginas can't give birth vaginally" or if you don't gain enough weight you get "your baby is too small we need to induce/you're too small, your baby is too big we need to induce" You can't win either way. All it does is make women worry that something is wrong if they are outside of the figures that *they* say you should be putting on. I've had a huge variation in the amount of weight I put on during pg from as little as 15kg with my last pg to 27kg with my second and I did nothing different with any of my pgs.

thanks guys. i normally wouldn't worry at all but when i had my book in with hospital the doc told me i was "overweight"big meanie she was.
also she told me i couldn't gain too much or i wont be able to use BC to have baby.

all my boys were BC babies with quick labours and big boys also all early by 2 or 3 weeks. so who knows. i guess if they hadn't said anything maybe i wouldnt worry ?????????????

    thanks for your comments.

Pre-baby i was a pretty average size but when pregnant i put on a lot of weight. I eat healthy and am pretty active, but that's just what my body does. My DD was a average ish size, i had a lot of fluid and lost a lot of weight in the couple weeks after birth. Still wasn't back to pre-baby weight when i got pregnant this time, but was heading in the right direction. I don't look at the charts of what i 'should' put on because my body just does what it does, and when bub is here it will come off again (even if it takes a little while).

I didn't put on much with either of my girls - 5.5kgs with DD1 and only 2kgs with DD2. I was overweight to start with, so that certainly played a part in it, but mostly its that I just don't "do" pregnancy well. I'm sick for 9 months and my body apparently does a terrible job of leaving anything at all for me after feeding baby. My girls were born average - 3.5kgs and 3.6kgs - and I walked out of hospital considerably lighter than pre-pregnancy.

I've joked that pregnancy is the best diet I can ever go on, but in truth its a pretty high price to pay.

I think so long as you are eating healthily, getting exercise if health allows it, then you really shouldn't stress. What's important is that you look after yourself and your growing baby. Don't forget that once bubs is born you're going to be running around like a crazy person looking after a newborn and 3 boys!

I have ended up at the same weight at the end of each pregnancy - despite starting ech pregnancy from very different points. This last pregnancy I was Sooooo careful about my weight (had to stay under the BMI cut off for the hospital I wished to go too): I still ended up at the same weight (which is just under the cut off).

I gained about 5.5kg, but I was on the bigger side to begin with, so I was conscious of not putting on too much, then found out I had gestational diabetes so had to restrict my diet even more.

Since DD was born 7 weeks ago I've lost 13kg and am the lightest I've been in 4 years, despite eating 24/7 due to breastfeeding hunger!

Bottom line is don't let it worry you too much, just enjoy being pregnant and the rest will sort itself out later!

thanks guys for all your comments

kimbles01: hope i lose it that quickly !

AFM: well i have had a cold and now i have lost half kilo !!

the midwife growled at me and this was before the loss for not gaining enough ?? what ?? and said that the reason i am getting low BP and feeling sick etc is cause i have NOT gained enough ?

i am so so over it. i am on so many vitamins and supplements to help baby ( all approved thru naturopath) Iron, due to low iron, Calcium due to the fact that milk and milk products are making me sick ?. preg vitamin, omega 3 and now kelp to help my low BP and even some licorice in small quantities to help low BP also.

it is so frustrating. i am trying to do my best and not dieting but i still get into trouble, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
