Out, damn' spot! How do I get colouring gel off skin?!

    Hi all,

I decided to do a trial run of DD's birthday cake yesterday to test the cake recipe but also have a crack at fondant icing. It all looks great, HOWEVER... I managed to get Wilton brand hot pink colouring gel ALL over my hands. *pause for the obvious "caught red-handed" jokes* but I look like I have some kind of skin disease!

I have been washing my hands like Lady Macbeth, using my nice salt scrub etc... it is fading sloooowly but is there anything I can do to remove it without removing a few layers of skin in the process?

    Thanks!

Well I think cigarette ash (gross I know) gets hair colour off skin. Not sure about food colouring though. Good luck.

i have used bicarb and vinegar to get rid of food coloring on my hands in the past (different brand, same sort of situation though!)

next time, i'd suggest using gloves or covering your hands in copha so the color doesn't stick

I have heard that nail polish remover works well or you could try lemon juice if you have any. When I use the gel colours I wash my hands immediately after using them and find that I get very little or no staining at all.
