    Supper??!!

Do your kids have supper?? Our kids eat at 5:30-6, followed by fruit and yoghurt most nights, sometimes ice-cream so it drags out til around 6:30 -bedtime is 7:30 for DS and 8 ish for DD and she is ALWAYS hungry, so we do tend to give her either porridge, weet-bix or NutriGrain (yes I know it has sugar in it and not here to debate what is healthiest!)

So just wondering if others do a supper for kids before they go to bed and what they have??!! Any new ideas would be good too - toast would be ok too I guess but I find it annoying to make and clean up

We usually eat dinner around 6pm and given the fun that it always is, its usually close to 7pm by the time dinner is done. Then its bath time and bed.

My girls, E in particular, is such an incredibly bad eater at dinner that if I allow them to have some sort of supper then they simply don't eat any dinner. Telling me they're hungry is also a very popular delay tactic for bed time! The only time I soften on supper is if someone is sick, did a great job at dinner (so maybe having a growth spurt), or if I have had a few days with E where she has eaten nothing and so I'm happy for her to have something in her tummy. When this happens its usualy something like toast (sorry!!) or crumpets, or a piece of fruit.

We have dinner around 6pm. Then the girls have their bath. Once dressed they have milk and a biscuit. If they are still hungry, then we will cut up an apple for them. Really trying to encourage that they eat a decent dinner, DD1 mucks around too much and does not end up any that much, so is often hungry later.

I guess I should have clarified too that they are both generally pretty good eaters. DS won't really ask of anything else, usually it's DD and if he does ask I usually know he actually is hungry - he actually asked for a banana tonight at around 7:15 so I knew he probably was actually hungry. I have now told DD that if she doesn't eat all/most of her dinner she isn't allowed to have anything else later on but most of the time she really does eat well so I just don't know! Hard to know especially as she will eat all of whatever we give her once DS is in bed, so makes me think she does need it! She doesn't carry on and muck around either, will just sit and eat and then go brush teeth to get into bed.

If they're eating good dinners then yep, I would absolutely give supper. Sounds like your kids just need a top up before bed time. Can we swap our kids' eating habits please? Pretty please????

Heehee sure thing lovely! It has taken a while babe, they used to both be shockers, especially Iz and J went through a shorter phase at around 2 where I really wondered what they were living on - it was only that they wee'd and poo'd that I realised SOMETHING was going in but now they are both pretty good, not too fussy, eat some veggies so I can't complain really. Ok well, I guess we will keep at what we are doing now I think with porridge or something.

It sounds like they do need something more.

    Some ideas-

Rice cakes with ricotta or cream cheese and vegemite
Toasted muffin withhoney or fruit spread
Slice of toasted wholegrain bread topped with ricotta cheese and jam
Toasted sandwich - use baked beans with a slice of cheese or ham if she's really hungry
Ants on a log - Celery with saltanas and peanut butter my DD loves these!)
    Raisin toast
Cheese scones or homemade muffins (pre made)
    Crumpets

DD sometimes will have yoghurt, a sandwich or milk. We really try to limit sugary snacks b/c it prolongs bedtime
