    What would you do?

Last October I ordered some earrings on ebay. The company is in the UK. After 8 wks I still had not received them, contacted the company and they sent out a new pair free of charge which I got 10 days later.

Today I check the mail and the first pair of earrings sent are there. The package looks a little worse for wear so I have no idea where they have travelled.

DD2 had already lost one earring and I was actually going to order another set because I love them so much and they are only 6pounds for the set.

I am in two minds now, do I contact the company and offer to pay for the replacement set now that I have received the first set or do I just see it as luck on my side and not let the company know.

I just think I was prepared to buy another set anyway. Hmmm, I just don't know.

I personally wouldn't let the company know - they would have already written that first pair off as lost. I say it's lucky for you enjoy!

I don't think there would be anything 'wrong' with just keeping them, like Ash said the company would've written them off anyway. But, I'm a big believer in karma and doing the right thing, so if it was me I would probably contact the company to let them know that they turned up and explain that you were actually planning on purchasing another pair and would happily pay for this pair now that they've arrived. Chances are they won't bother getting you to go through with the transaction, but even if they do it's not much money, but at least you can enjoy them knowing that you did the right thing.

^^^Yeah that. If you don't pay, technically, it is stealing. Would you be comfortable with that? Would you want to set that example for your DD? I think Miss E's idea is great.

Nope, I would not. They sent you out new ones as not only a replacement, but to compensate for the inconvenience, time wasted etc. It's what businesses like that do, so I wouldn't, I'd be happy that fortune smiled on me and I got two pairs

ETA eeep, I'm a norty minority

Oh, I must be bad....I wouldn't tell em

I ordered a cupcake stand thingy on ebay for my daughters 4th bday...2 months BEFORE her b'day and it still hadn't arrived 2 weeks before her bday, contacted the seller who basically said *too bad so sad* and refunded my money.

3 weeks AFTER her bday it finally turned up! Due to their rudeness I didn't bother letting them know it finally turned up!

Now you girls are making me feel a lil guilty!

I would definitely tell them. But then I don't like keeping anything that I haven't paid for under any circumstances. I think if you be up front about it you'll probably find they will offer for you to keep them. I would also let them know because it sounds like the package was lost, which is completely out of their control. So they could follow it up with their postal service. I don't think they did the wrong thing, I think it was just one of those things that was out of their control.

I think in situations like this we seem to have lost common courtesy, and people often jump the gun and get angry when things don't turn up instead of being polite first KWIM? I mean sure, if they be rude to you then you have every right, but I think they should always be given the benefit of the doubt. But then again I have had an online store before

I have sent them an email. I think I always knew I would though.

Miss E. The Karma played a big part, but I just felt it was the right thing to do in telling them.

The people were really nice and quick to send a new pair when I told them the first pair had not arrived. They gave me no troubles at all.

Thanks for your answers and honest opinions

Same thing happened here - but with a Soccer Shirt from the UK which was a gift for my Uncle last Christmas (eg 2010), I was sent a replacement after waiting 8 weeks, then of course the replacement and the original arrived

I sent them an email offering to return it and pay for the extra postage - they replied saying to keep the extra shirt and thanked me for my honesty

An all round great experience, I actually bought two other shirts from them later as I was so impressed with their service

I'd tell them. They were good enough to send out a replacement pair quickly to keep a customer happy, I'd return the same courtesy.
