    Short Day Sleeps

Just wanting to know if anyone had experience with these? My DD is very cranky during the day, but seems to have trouble staying asleep for more than 45mins at a time? We have discovered wrapping her in a cot sheet helps her becuase it keeps her from unwrapping herself, however more often than not she wakes, annoyed and is having trouble going back to sleep.

It is like her brain isnt switching off? At night when she isnt teething (i can't believe she is teething this early) she will go to bed after her bath at around 6-7 and then sleep till 2am, then again till 6am so that is ok.

Any ideas would help she is 10 weeks next week

Not to depress you but my first son only slept for exactly 40 mins at a time from 5 weeks to 8 months. Nothing I did made him have more sleeps so I just went with it.

Have you read up on sleep cycles etc? So, the theory goes that if you rock/feed/assist your baby to sleep, they will wake up after one sleep cycle (40-50 minutes) and look for that prop in order to go back to sleep. But often they wake up completely and can be impossible to resettle.

My DS was a chronic catnapper, and from what I learned talking to other mums, posting here and scouring the internet for the solution, so are plenty of babies, especially at that age. You can try to resettle her everytime she wakes until she learns how to sleep through one sleep cycle. Or you can live with it and get on with things (I did this for months, as DS would never resettle and it was too stressful for me to keep trying and failing). I only decided to work on it when I felt DS was old enough to adapt to me changing the way I put him to sleep (instead of in-arms, now I rock and pat and shh in his cot, and he was definitely not ready for this at 2 months). I also think a good routine helps - do you have structure to your days yet? Again, I didn't really try anything beyond sleep-feed-play until he was about 4.5-5 months old.

I have similar troubles and posted about it here: (where you'll find more similar experiences and strategies)

I've just let it go, as all the re-settling was only yielding a very occasional longer sleep, did not teach him to sleep longer independently and was ultimately just stressing us all out. I'm still exhausted and would still love more down-time, but happier for just letting it be for now, with the hope that longer naps may one day eventuate. Good luck!

My DS has also been the King of cat napping 45 minutes at a time. I just got used to it in the end, but the end of the day was hard as he was tired. Now days he sometimes does 1.5 hours. Resettling during the day never worked for us.

Thanks guys, sometimes she will go longer, mostly 45mins to an hour. It is like as soon at 6am comes she can't sleep longer than that till after 6pm at night. I thought it was strange.

I do in cot settling wrapping , and leaving to sleep as my DD wont sleep if I stay and shh or pat she tries to look at me and thinks its fun, and gets more tired. Sometimes if she is really cranky and is not calm I use a dummy and she goes off to sleep, but she wont fall to sleep in my arms anymore, no rocking or anythjing will get her to sleep.

She did have reflux which we are trying to get under control with formula, our last pead was useless so we are trying a new pead to get her reassessed. All we know is BM makes her scream and scream, and the formula dosent, however she still chucks and is unsettled. Losec didnt seem to work. She makes lots of uncomfortable noises after eating still, and dosent like to eat as much during the day as at night.

I have 2 phone books under one end of the cot, it isnt a large elevation but it is something.
