    Possible SPD and starting school

My DD2 (4) has always been 'quirky', i am waiting for a OT appointment for a possible SPD assessment.
She gets over stimulated easily, not keen on change, crowds, strange men, loud noises, touch (even from us sometimes...then other times only back tickles will help)...she can just completely shut down when she cannot deal with a situation.
I have learned to deal with her quirks, I know what to do to keep melt downs to a minimum.
But over the last month any blood, even a tiny pin***** on her causes major meltdowns, you can not touch it, wipe it....sometimes a bandaid helps.
She can fall over hit her head but if there is no blood she is fine.
She starts Kindy in a week, first time away from me and I am stressing a little...it is a big change. She is excited about and we have talked about it but I am really not sure how she will go.
Any tips on how to ease her into it and how to talk to her teacher without any diagnoses...just 'quirks'

Have you looked into OT toys? I was suggested a weighted blanket for DD2 (cheaper option, we have a weighted door snake) & it helps her. The deep seated pressure calms her. DD is a tactile seeker. Needs to touch everything. She has vestibular issues too... so can't sit still. Even her teacher noticed the change in her when she had the snake.

I'd talk to the teachers about it. I'm worried about DS starting this year (I think he's an avoider), but he's been to daycare already. Changing to new people is a bit scary, he was only ever ok if his 2 'safe' people were there. But they got to know him & he was fine. Here he has a cousin he's getting along great with who'll be starting as well. So I'm a little less stressed...

But, yeah, I've warned the principle. Just let them know what he can be like at home. I already know that he keeps to himself & never talks at school, so I think once he settles he'll be ok.

I haven't done anything to follow up on a diagnosis yet though. Might wait & see how he settles in.

I haven't look into OT toys. Her dummy and soft baby usually calm her but they are things she cannot have in the classroom.
I might have a chat to her teacher....who fortunately is female!
I am probably over reacting and she will be fine

Caan she take the baby? or maybe something small she likes the feel of? similar to the baby like just a piece of fabric face washer size?

Not sure, I will talk to the teacher next week.
Thank you so much to take the time to respond Clover.
I hope your DS settles into to school well this year.

I would also get some resources about SPD and give to your teacher, you can find them on different websites, but if you google sensory aids for the class room you will find some. I think being aware of her triggers can help the school environment greatly and a teacher will be happy to have some tools on hand.
