Hi All,
Have just started an Antagonist cycle - 1st Gonal F injection today. Have had IVF/ICSI in 2007 and it was the pill, the syneral, gonal F; ocy whatever etc etc. I was so blessed with DD as a result.
Am really anxious that new FS (old one retired!) is trying to reinvent the wheel by changing everything that has previously worked. I feel like a guinea pig doing this "fast antagonist". I know new research has come about and it is most likely what the FS sees as being in DH & my best interests but...would love to hear other's experiences on this type of cycle, positive and negative!
(DH has TESA's each time so this is our last go for that final miracle...I never would have thought i'd say it but i wish i was doing the long cycle and taking syneral again cause at least i have proff it works!!)
Both my IVF cycles were antagonist cycles. I was so thankful that they were because I hated the thought of the long drawn out alternative.
In my first cycle I got 11 eggs, 7 fertilised and made it to PGD, 2 had no results and the other 5 all had chromosomal abnormalities. It was devastating, but not caused by the type of cycle at all. We just had bad luck with chromosome issues.
Second cycle my Gonal F was increased a bit and I got 21 eggs, 11 fertilised with ICSI this time (we were told the fertilisation rate would probably be higher, but it was actually a little lower than the other way), 10 made it to PGD and all had chromosomal abnormalities again except for one precious little embie. That embie is now my precious little girl who just turned one ♥
Best of luck with your cycle!!! I hope you get wonderful news in the near future
Kimbe I've only ever done antagonist cycles. If you're really uncertain about it, why not go back to your fs/clinic and get a better explanation of why this might be better and/or talk about doing the other kind of cycle.
I love antagonist cycles too, my first was a longdown reg which ended up getting cancelled so 2 months down the drain.
1st antagonist I got 9 eggs, ( 1 pregnancy that m/c), second I got 10 eggs- (1 chem pregnancy, 1 pregnancy that m/c) so although i never got a baby out of it I was happy with my numbers for my age.
Good luck, you will appreciate the speed of antagonist its the same length as a natural cycle. Good luck!
I've had 2 antagonist cycles and I think they are great. Takes next to no time for EPU. I've had successes so far (currently in the 2WW in my second antagonist cycle). GL hun!
Another successful antagonist cycler here. I haven't done anything else but I loved how the antagonist cycle was so short. We didn't mKe it to transfer stage with our first cycle (I'm a poor responder to the drugs and our few follies developed multiple nuclei and they don't transfer those. Nothing to do with the cycle though) and was able to do back to back cycles within weeks. Second cycle had three eggs fertilise and DS was one of them.
I agree with MadB though,if you're unsure why your FS had suggested an antagonist cycle ask for clarification, I'm sure they'll be happy to help.
Wow, those numbers are phenomenal. Those numbers would absolutely blow me away. Thx for the replies ladies. I wasn't expecting such quick positive feedback.
I thought the antagonist was great - nice and quick - didn't work for me but was good for the first cycle to see how I reacted to the drugs. I got 8 follicles. 5 fertilized & 3 embryos. But none could be frozen & bfn.
This time I've changed to down reg and just found out I've got 12 follicles. So go back on Monday for next US and maybe will be ready to collect later next week
I think antagonist is great - even though it didn't work for me. It is nice & quick.
Cone join us in the LTTTC & AC thread it's very busy in there at the moment
Antagonist cycles are much more patient friendly. I've done two and had two BFPs - first one only one embryo - but a BFP nonetheless (my DS) and we recently cycled again and had much more success after my gonal F dose was increased. We got 17 follicles this time, 12 fertilized, one BFP (currently 14 weeks pg) and have 6 frosties - no negatives here
