    Learning to crochet

I dont have very good internet being rural it takes 4 hours and most of my downloads to get a youtube clip.
So other than net clips what/where are some good crochet tutorials.
I am a complete beginner but would love to master this craft.

This is my mission for this year too, because I've found some really cute amigurami patterns I want to make.
Lion brand yarn have some good stuff, but I'm still struggling to get my head around it at this stage.
Let me know how you go.

You tube is a great source for tutorials, it is a pity you can't access that as there is nothing like being able to watch someone. Still, there are other options

Could you ask around for a local 'expert' to show you? Maybe make a crafternoon where you get a lesson and you can barter some other skill or maybe just an afternoon tea. I am sure there would be a willing teacher as people who make with yarn tend to be super keen to get others hooked and share the love!

Otherwise, Pip from the blog 'Meet me at Mikes' has an awesome beginners series on crochet.

Sometimes there are local community crocheting groups. I am sure there would be a few willing tutors in them

There are a few books that are helpful. I have some at home - will check titles hopefully when I get home. Your local library may have some books (or be able toget some in from other libraries)

Do you have a spotlight or Lincraft near you. They have free "how to" cards as well as classes teaching you

Two books I would recommend getting a hold of:

Best option as a stitch reference & how to book:
A ~ Z of crochet: a complete manual for the beginner through to the advanced stitcher. ISBN 978 09675476 3 0 - good pics but no projects ; gives both uk and us terms including abbreviations and symbols; and the different hook sizes and conversion table for these. I picked this one up at a news agent looking at the price tag. I recommend this one best

    2nd option
Instant expert crochet edited by katy bevan ISBN 9781741780406. This one has good pics but not as extensive in stitches covered; does have conversion charts but these aren't as extensive as the other book. This book does have some patterns.

I'd see if your local public library has a copy of either of these in their collection or ask if they can get these as an inter library loan so you can see them before buying or trying to buy them. You can also see what's on the library shelves at 746.43 as that's where the crocheting books are.
