Pregnancy 'uninsured' if it's medically assisted

I was just reading my travel insurance cover provided by Chartis Insurance via my ANZ card. (It's 68 pages long BTW!)

I am totally outraged and a bit indignant that they will cover pregnancy up to and including 24 weeks...IF no complications exist relating to the pregnancy and the conception was not medically assisted.
    Insert expletive.

Who the heck made that rule up? Why on earth does it matter if the conception was medically assisted? Why does AC give them the right to not cover the pregnancy?

Sure, i get that some assisted conceptions are due to medical reasons which might increase complications - but then surely that falls under the first part of the disclaimer (i.e. if no complications exist relating to the pregnancy)

I'm not in a good mood after reading this. Why does this world that we live in seem to assume that Assisted Conceptions are high risk, or dodgy or complicated or more likely to go wrong.

(BTW, i'm not pregnant, so don't ask or that will make me grumpier! LOL)

    What the @#$$@#$.

I guess any excuse not to cover anyone... but that is just stupid. I get the craps when any medical professional assumes that AC means it's not a low risk pregnancy. Idiots.

I know!!! I discovered this recently when sorting travel insurance for a work trip. I had just finished an assisted (puregon) cycle and was interested in if I would be covered. I was so angry when I realised that if I did get a bfp I wouldn't be covered. As if infertility isn't a kick in the guts enough!
I guess when I finally do fall there will be no more overseas travel for me. I had planned to do a trip up until 20 weeks. I wish I new their rational behind such a policy.

****ers. I always wonder where they find the people who write the T&C's for insurance policies.

    Yeah.
When we went to NZ when I was pg with DS, I read the fine print and found that they would cover if it was IVF but only if no other complications and a singleton pg. Having OHSS at the outset was considered a complication and i wasn't covered. They would cover for naturally conceived multiples....

Yep pain in the butt!!! My annual policy for work doesnt cover it either. I spoke to our insurance rep to see if I could pay and extra premium for it and I couldnt

It totally sucks but I think you will find just about every insurance provider has the same clause in their PDS.

When we went o/s in December, I could only find ONE travel insurance company that would cover me.

And it would only cover singleton pregnancies with no complications, that were conceived naturally.. And we had to be back in the country before I hit 30w.

    Freaking ridiculous!

Yep. I had that issue when we went to Hong Kong in December. Never thought it would be an issue but I ended up hospitalised there for pregnancy issues. The medical bills I ended up with are all my responsibility! Mine was in fact a natural conception, but they took the fact that I was having hormone assistance following conception and an ovulation trigger as both assistance and complications.

Made me pretty furious. The only thing stopping me from losing it with them is the knowledge that my bub is ok - makes my medical bills seem a bit insignificant plus I just don't have the energy for a fight with an insurance company.
