Embryo behind in dates in a 7 week scan

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone had a scan at around 7 weeks (early scan) and the embryo was measuring a few days behind (up to a week behind) in dates? I went for my scan on Tuesday and I should have been 7w5d, but the sonographer said that the embryo was measuring a week behind. The pg sack was a good size. I've had 2 pg previously, and in both of them there was a good strong HB (scans done at around 7 weeks) but this time I saw what was a beginning of a HB. It was flickering but not strongly. I'm really worried and will be going to see my FS today to seek some anwsers but I'm wondering if anyone was measuring behind with the embryo size but then the pg caught up? I had a 2 day, 4 cell embryo transferred. My HCG were 103 (4w1d), 184 (4w6d) and 6400 at 5w6d. I am wondering if the embryo implanted slightly later than expected.....???

I have no advice but I wanted to come in and wish you lots of luck and love. I don't know what the stats are for when an embryo 'should' implant after doing AC but it sounds like the hb has just kicked started and that would definately coincide with not quite being 7 weeks - babies HB tends to start at around 6 weeks.

Oh Sweet Lady - yep, DS who was a 2 day emby as you know measured a few days behind in my early scans, and this bubba has measured 3 days behind each time also despite us knowing the very day of conception each time.

Funnily Enough DS is still a tiny fella - he's the littlest guy at child care and amongst our friends kids.

Can they do another scan in a week or so when the HB is likely to be more readable?

Thanks Rhi, that's what I thought about the HB too. Perhaps it's too early to see a strong HB as the fetus is a week behind. Hoping like mad it will catch up soon! I love seeing your ticker hun, it's so exciting!

Naomi, you always say things that ease my mind, so thank sweetie. I so hope you're right hun. I probably wouldn't be worried if it was just 2 or 3 days behind but a week sounds a bit long to me. I'm hoping my FS is not going to be all doom and gloom today, and just gets me to test my levels again to see what is happening and orders another scan in a few days. It's the waiting and hanging in limbo land that's killing me. Of course b/c I've been told it's a concern to see the embryo behind especially in IVF where is should be spot on dates, I feel less pg now and constantly poking my boobs to see if the're still sore

DD measured 5 days behind at what was supposed to be a 7 weeks scan, so 6wks 2 days. She surely did catch up and actually got 'bigger' by dates especially her tummy measurement! Born on average though.

This time round i had a scan at 6w, the measurements were behind and we could only get a flicker of a heartbeat with an internal ultrasound, from the measurements she put my dates back to 5w2d, my Ob was not impressed and checked again the following week and moved my dates forward 4 days again. She said its so subjective when you are measuring .somethings of a mm. it can all differ in the angle its it.

Sorry for all the stress . Is there a typo in the above stats for 4w6d? 184 sounds low for 4w6d (so maybe a late implantation or a slow starter) and then you picked up fast from there. 184 sounds more like a 3w6d level so yeah maybe your bubba is a week behind? I guess only another scan will tell. Thinking of you xoxo.

Maruschke, you can see where my brain has gone, to sleep with all the stress! lol. Sorry, I just checked my diary and the levels for 4w6d were 887. Phew!!! I even scared myself

I am so praying the OB will suggest the implantation took place a bit later than expected and the next scan will be all good

I know how scary it is when you are behind in your dates and the not knowing is absolute torture. I hope you have just got a late implanter there.

DD was slow to start off - when she should have been 6w5d she was only measuring 5w4d. she had a heartbeat but it was slower than it should have been, so i was all stressed out. she's now a very healthy happy little girl!
