    A tea party for a 5yo?

My DD is 5 in about a month's time, and I have been trying to think of what to do for her birthday. We are going to have a party this year, cause 5 is kind of a 'big' birthday. But I don't want it to be a big extraviganza, just something fairly simple with maybe 5-6 friends for her to celebrate with. So I though instead of doing the princess or fairy thing, I might make it a tea party, kind of like a kiddy high tea. I googled some awesome tea pot cakes and I have made the little tea pot biscuits. I thought maybe some cup cakes, fairy bread and strawberry milk.
What do you think...too much? Or do you have any suggestions?!
    TIA

Sounds delightful! How about letting the guests ice their own cupcakes as an activity?

What a lovely idea. You could get a milk frother and have flavoured kiddycinos

It sounds perfect. My Dd will be 5 20th of next month and she loves tea parties she would be stoked if she had one for her 5 th birthday or went to someone else's tea party.

We've had tea parties with my niece. She loves to pick out nice plates and cups from Mum's china cabinet. We use one of those cake stacker things and have little sandwiches and scones, then cupcakes and strawberries.

Do they still strawberry shortcake stuff? That used to be good.

Kelle Hampton recently posted on her blog about her daughter's High Tea birthday party - if you google kelle hampton tea for two it should come up.

Some great ideas for activities on there

Lions and Bears, I'm hoping I can find some cheap porcelan/china cups and tea pots to buy. We live in a tiny town, so I'm not getting my hopes up! But we have some plastic ones that will do. And I am going to steal your idea of the cake stacker, I hadn't thought of that!

human bean, thankyou so much for that party to look at, it is beautiful! I don't think ours will be quite that grand, but hopefully just as fun!

I am very excited now! Last night, I sat there looking at ideas for it! I *could* go nuts with it. But I do really want to keep it relatively simple.

We will dress up, do some cupcake decorating (thanks ausgirl!), hat decorating, dancing and the trusty old faithful, pass the parcel.

    She will love it!

That sounds absolutely brilliant. My DD2 was sitting at the kitchen bench yesterday drinking her milk out of a bright yellow teacup having a ball so I can so easily see little munchkins all sitting around sipping with their pinkies in the air!!

I don't know if Ikea do online shopping, but if they do they had some great (cheap!) china teacups for kids in bright colours when I was in there a couple of months ago.

How did your party go? Any hints/tips - trying to get sorted for DD1's 6th bday and it is all seeming too much!

We haven't had it yet, it will be on the 19th May, I had to delay it because we went away for 3weeks!

On tip for you though is be specific to your 6yr about limits to who is invited! DD keeps on telling me who else she wants to come, and I have to keep on reminding her that only the people she's given invitations to are coming, and that is a limited number (I limited it to 5 friends, but including siblings it will turn out to be about 8-10). Also, from previous kids parties I have had, prepare food ahead of time and keep things simple. We will have a few nibblies/party foods, two hot foods (homemade sausage rolls and mini frankfurts) and cake. Drinks will be chocolate or strawberry milk with cake, cordial and water.
