yes, i know not the usual question regarding weight... but an issue for me all the same. I had my DD 6months ago and then was diagnosed with PND, which subsequently saw me lose all my baby weight plus more very rapidly (i guess due to anxiousness and poor appetite). Anyway, i am still continuing to lose weight without trying. I am doing everything i can think of to try to stabilise/put on weight but nothings really working that well. I eat 3 meals a day, snack whenever i can, drink a sustagen supplement, try to force myself to eat even if im not very hungry... i generally go for a short walk with DD in the pram once a day so its not like i do a heap of intense exercise... except of course running around with a baby.
I am really starting to become self concious about it, because everyone i see (no joke) tells me im looking thin, or asks me if im ok....
Hi Sarah,
When i started IVF i lost a lot of weight. Then gained very little when pregnant. Then lost a lot more due to pancreatitis and having gall stones. And breastfeeding too. Then another pg with very little weight gain, which was all gone within weeks of birth without any attempt to lose weight. It is easy to become self conscious of it because it quite often draws seemingly negative comments. I think supplement drink taste awful!
Anyway, i think that unless you are quite underweight, or your health is suffering, then you should try as much as you can to not worry about it. Are you very tired, lethargic? Do you think if you weighed more you would feel better (health wise)?
I encourage you not to worry too much and given time your weight may very well return to it's 'natural/normal' weight, or you might just find a new normal for you. As long as you don't feel you are jeopardising your health.
2 years after my DS2 was born i have started to regain weight. I am almost back to my old pre TTC days of 6+ years ago.
Anxiety + weight loss can indicate a thyroid or other metabolic issue. Best to see your dr, to rule out any problems. Otherwise try adding extra butter, cheese, milk powder and oil to your food serves, this can give you extra calories without needing to eat more food.
im in about the same boat as you, i eat all the time, always hungry, and rarely do any exercise and I cant gain weight.
i have been the same weight since I was about 14. last year i lost 7kgs, i managed to get that back but am unable to get any higher. I AM under weight but I cant fix it.
when I put the 7kgs back on i was drinking sustagen hospital grade shakes. But they stopped working once i got back to 'normal'.
If you find anything that works, i would love to try it. Though I know mine is a high metabolism thing, but i cant see why that stops me getting more than i am. and i havent lost weight since then either :/
To gain weight, you obviously need to take in more calories than you burn. There are several healthy foods you should add to your diet that add healthy fat and calories:
nuts and peanut butter
avocado
lean meat (chicken, fish, etc)
bananas
dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, apricots, etc.)
whole milk.
Olive oil
yogurts
