For those who use (or have used) the withdrawal method of contraception!

I've done some browsing and searching and can't find quite what I'm looking for, so sorry if there is a thread I've missed somewhere to this effect.

I would only like to hear from people who have genuinely used the withdrawal method themselves please...

    Has it been successful?

It worked for us but also combined with knowing when I was going to O. Then I know someone who has a suprise on the way using this method of contraception

Yes for us. But in hindsight, it could be because I had polycystic ovaries and some fertility issues that needed to be sorted before I could fall pregnant. So it's possible that I just wasn't falling pregnant, or I do even wonder if I miscarried and never knew it (going by what my known miscarriage was like). But our only known pregnancies were all planned. I remember my OB scoffing at it tho, and saying DH must be a man of steely discipline LOL.

We are relying on it now tho, since I refuse to use the pill and DH isn't planning anything permanent LOL. Not keen on barrier contraception, so I guess we're prepared to take the risk. It does have a fairly low success rate compared to other contraception.

    Yes here too.

I stopped taking the pill probably eight years ago, started stuffing with my cycles. I knew when O was, so we avoided it. I guess you can say it worked well for us because I fall pg within a couple of months of us trying.

A couple I'm friends with had a couple of surprise babies using this method.

Apparently it can be very successful if done right - the guy needs to make sure he's 'flushed out the pipes' after last ejaculating to make sure there is no semen in there before he ejaculates, making sure he pulls out in time, etc.

We use it too and have done since DS1 was born. We only have fallen pg when we actively ttc so no accidents here. We find it quite easy to conceive too. We may just be lucky though....

My sister and BIL used withdrawal as contraception in conjunction with monitoring temps and CM for ovulation, and still managed to fall pregnant with DS2 and 3 years later, DS3.

Withdrawal worked great for DH & I until the one time DH didn't pull out on time! Lol. Oh well, the result is our gorgeous DD3.

Successful for over 8 years here, the only time we got pg was when we were trying, or didn't mind if we did fall pg and we did 3 times. Since having the kids I track my O on the FMC app and know roughly when I O anyway but even then we don't often abstain at this time. Your partner has to be pretty clued in to make sure he pulls out in time!!
