If your First sign of Labour was your waters breaking...

........... When and where did it happen?

I've been thinking about this today. DS's labour started with my membranes leaking (a slow but steady trickle) mid afternoon as I was standing in my kitchen having a massive cook up to fill my freezer with meals for post birth.

Wondering what 'Membrane Rupturing' moments others have experienced - Where were you? What time of day? How much later did bub arrive?

It was just after midnight, I was in bed and DH stole the covers off me so I rolled over and ripped them back off him when it happened .

A friend of mine's broke as she was buying a doughnut from Donut King

With DD2 my hind waters ruptured at about 1am - I was restless so was on the couch watching tv. Forewaters ruptured 4 hours later and DD born 15 minutes later,

DD3 hindwaters broke at 8.15 am while I was sitting on a kitchen stool doing my DD's hair for school. Contractions didn't start for another 9 odd hours. Forewaters broke another 2 hours later and DD3 born 50 minutes after that

Sitting on my bed after a shower. I'd been in the habit of folding up a towel, putting it on the bed and sitting on that just in case something happened so I could avoid anything getting on the mattress. Not that it really mattered as DD was born in the bed just over an hour later.

Always wondered about situations like that!!!!

Mine broke both times during labour. Rather unspectacular - first time during a VE (unsure whether it was an intentional AROM or if they were about to rupture anyway but eh), second time it was spontaneous while I was sitting on the loo at the birth centre. I was hoping it'd happen somewhere more exciting than that but oh well!!

Apparently it's some stat like only 10% of women who experience SROM prior to labour starting. Can anyone confirm that for me??

I think it's a smidge higher, up to 25%, however I think you are right OP, lots of people think this is the first sign, but for the majority of women they don't break until well into labour or just prior to bubs popping out

I think the 10% is the women who experience a gushing rupture.

DD2 mine were the first sign of labour, and they broke as a steady stream, not a gush. 6.30 am woke up to pee and just as I got up felt a slight 'pop' - felt like that instant your period starts - and it ran down my leg, I started laughing hysterically... lol

Waters broke at 39w4d (DS1) as a slow and steady trickle less than 10 mins after hubby finished doing moxabustion and acupressure/massage on my lower back ETA, mild contractions started within the hour and bub born approx 8 hours later.
With DS2 I asked for my waters to be broken (sigh, the relief!!) ... he was born approx 35 mins later.

    37 +2 @ 5am. On the dot.
Jumped up and bolted to the toilet, leaving a trail behind me
Nothing was happening so at approx 8am had acupuncture to try and avoid induction
Cx started @ about 10 am and were irregular until 10pm ish.
DS born at 4:49am after 20mins of pushing, @37+3.

(It just occurred to me that that is exactly 12 hours from rupture of membranes to birth. Weird!!)

We DTD about 9.30 then went to sleep and at 1.30am I felt wet went to the bathroom and BAM had a big gush......... twice! With DD1 and DD2. DD1 I didn't start contracting until about 11am and she was born at 7.30pm. DD2 I started contracting straight away and she was born at 7:48 am. DD3 my waters didnt break until I was well into established labour and in the bath, which was strange to me after having them break to start with for my first two labours

DS2 - also about 1am, in bed asleep. Woke up to a pop and a gush...38+4 and being induced the next day contractions didn't start, synto started 10am, baby born about 7pm.

At 0500 hours I felt a sudden very urgent need to wee. Hadn't experienced that at all during my pregnancy. JUST as I got over the loo, my waters broke. I didn't have contractions for 13 hours.

    4am on the toilet.

I got up to do a wee, emptied my bladder, lent forward to wipe, felt an air bubble move up my vagina followed by a pop and gush.

    Contractions started an hour later.

Briley was born at 1.21pm that day.

We had just hoped into bed 10.30pm on a Monday night. There was no pop, but it gushed and continued to gush intermittently through out labour. My DD was born 2.08pm Wednesday by emergency c-section.
