I LOVE tofu, I always eat it at resturaunts and when I go out but ive never actually cooked with it myself!
Ive looked in the supermarket and have noooo idea which one to buy :/
Who has tried the sweet chilli one in coles?
Firm tofu is easiest to start with at home. There are hundreds of recipes online, and most will tell you what kind to get.
I got the sweet chilli one once, when it was discounted. It's nice, but soooo expensive, and it's so easy to make your own good marinades and sauces that I just can't usually justify the $$.
The exception is the Soyco Japanese one. We buy that a lot to have on hand for sushi rolls.
We buy our tofu from our local Asian grocer- about $5 per kilo and its made fresh and delivered 2-3 times a week. I cube it and pan fry it so it holds together- need a good amount of oil and a non stick pan. . I like to use it in stir frys and in soups and Dhal too.Slices of it even goes well with steamed vegis and cheese sauce!
I love tofu too! I loved the fried one that you order in the Japanese restaurant - Agadashi Tofu. (sp?). I can't make that at home for some reason. It looks simple but there must be more to it.
I buy firm tofu from the supermarket mostly. I don't buy it marinated because the good thing about tofu is that is will take on the flavour of whatever you cook it with.
Unfortunately DP doesn't like tofu so I don't eat it as much as I would like.
