    temperature?

Is 37.5 a normal temp for a 12 week old? I just took it then and changed his nappy which wasn't very wet. I think it is but he feels quite warm and is very irritable. Is breast feeding fine but is very clingy and won't sleep unless in my arms..

Yes, that's a normal temperature. That's also normal behaviour for a 12 week old. Regarding the nappy, why did you change it if it wasn't wet?

There's a range of normal. 37.5 is the higher end of normal. If you're worried keep an eye on things, but don't give any Panadol at this point in time. If you think your baby is a bit warm, take some clothes off.

I havnt given any panadol yet...I changed his nappy because I was giving him a big breastfeed and wanted to see how wet he would be in a couple of hours and that nappy was wet but not as wet as he would normally be iykwim...
Any hoo once I changed him and finished feeding he did a massive poo, was darker in color rather than orangey/yellow.. Maybe he has an upset tummy perhaps? He is def not his happy self so something is up!
Thanks for the replies... I couldn't remember if that temp was on the higher scale for a baby?

Yep, 37.5 is the upper end of normal. Did you use a tympanic thermometer?

The RCH in Melbourne recommends not treating a fever below 39.C. A fever is the body's way of creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria or a virus. By reducing a low grade fever we are actually preventing the function of the body's own defence system.

Keep an eye on your DS, sounds like a day of snuggles might be in order!

We have a thermometer that goes under the arm ..sorry not sure wat that's called .....
Have used it with the other two kids but I am wanting to purchase an ear one now...
Lots of snuggles today ) he is sleeping in my arms atm and he keeps waking, doesn't seem to be putting himself back to sleep today and his neck feels hot in the crook of my arm!

I class 37.5 as a low grade fever

An axillary (under the armpit) temperature should be slightly lower than one taken with a tympanic (in the ear) thermometer. The axillary temp is also difficult to take accurately, particularly in a miserable, squirming bub! A tympanic thermometer is a good investment, particularly with kids. It's quick, easy and accurate. The Braun brand is reliable and very popular.

Sounds like you little man may indeed have low grade fever. I would keep and eye on him, offer plenty of BF's, watch his nappies (which you are obviously doing) and take him to the GP if your Mummy Radar says he needs it. I hope he feels better soon!
