    Question Healthy Breakfast Options

What are some healthy breakfast options? Im looking for some different options for the weekends

Im not really a cereal type of person. My weekdays are always the same with toast and coffee. I did give a homemade banana smoothie a go last weekend. I ended up with a slight queezy belly, reminded me why I dont have so much milk in the morning and I wasnt actually filled up either.

So something around the 200-300 calories / 800 to 1250kj range.

Juicing - its brilliant for health, weight loss and energy and the best brekkie you could have. Look up Cherie Cabom (spelling?) but she's known as the juice lady and has books full of yummy juicing ideas and the massive health benefits. I loved them on my detox and found them quite filling which was a surprise. Just have to learn some great combos.

Porridge made with water and salt is lush! Then pour the cold milk around the hot porridge

    Or tomatoes on toast

Poached eggs on wholegrain toast is one of my favourties. Sometimes I add about 2 tsp of tomato chutney for flavour.

Avocado and tomato on toast is yummy too

I actually have nasi goreng
It's eaten as a breakfast food in Malaysia and I'm not a cereal person lol. Or pho is eaten for breakfast in Vietnam, or Spanish baked eggs!

    Healthy Breakfast Options

I'm addicted to sourdough rye toast with Yumi's brand hommous, sliced ripe tomatoes, a dash of olive oil and pepper. Yummo!
prior to pregnancy, I'd make Bircher muesli with a good untoasted sugarfree muesli with extra rolled barley added , soaked in a high quality low g i fruit juice with homemade (easy yo) yoghurt.
Kept me going for hours and was easy to make in individual containers so I could grab one to eat on the way to work.

I often make poached eggs on english muffins, or pancakes with fruit and yoghurt, or sweetcorn fritters, or blueberry or raspberry hotcakes, as fairly healthy weekend breakfasts. We like to have something on weekends that makes it feel different to the usual rushed bowl of cereal we eat on weekday mornings.

I do a banana smoothie every morning, as well, but I have mine with OJ, not milk, and often add some other fruit, such as strawberries, frozen raspberries, or kiwifruit. I don't consider it breakfast on it's own, though - it's really important to get some carbs and protein into breakfast. That might suit your stomach better than a milk-based smoothie.

At the moment I have been having raw (soaked overnight) sporuted buckwheat or chia 'porridges/puddings' - I mix things in like goji berries, pepitas, sunflower seeds, raw cacao nibs, cinnamon, vanilla, fresh fruit, protein powder/maca etc
I either use water with a pinch of stevia, or almond/oat/soy milk - super yummy and you can prep it the night before.

Another staple at the moment is some coconut milk yoghurt (Coyo) mixed with spirulina, nuts/seeds and sometimes fruits (raspberries or passionfruit are yum with coconut)

for savoury I like barley sourdough bread with smashed avocado, sliced tomato, hummus, sumac and sometimes a sliced boiled egg

We also do smoothies or juices - current juice of the week for us is kale, apple, lemon and cucumber

I have found it at Leo's Supermarkets, and most organic shops such as Wholefoods (who are also online and deliver)

I don't tolerate dairy so it was great to find - ingredients in their plain one are just coconut milk, probiotics and xylitol

Yep, my DS absolutely loves the stuff - she'll even eat it after I have sprinkled in some spirulina as well. It's the only food she has never refused so far

Barnaby, I've heard that ape is thin, but is it really the thinnest of the fruits? Or by thin do we really mean insubstantial (not to be confused with existential ... I'm quite sure existentialism is pretty thin).

    But about that apple ...

I never eat more than one healthy chair for breakfast.

Hay is for horses.. chairs, on the other hand, are delicious.

    *giggle*

Back on topic though, omelettes are a good option. I like mine with mushrooms, tomatoes, chives and mozzarella cheese. Surprisingly low cal!
