Cool Is this not the most awesome idea ever to get fit?

Last night my bestie and I emptied a bottle of wine. My bestie, of course, being the wine.

And today I got to thinking about how the body metabolises ethanol. Well, it oxidises it to ethanal then to ethanoic acid. Vinegar. Which is why fats are great the next day as they react with the acid. Which means a fry-up the next day is mandatory to help me look after my body.

Then (follow the train of thought, clicketty clack) I thought: oxidation. In organic chemistry, that means the addition of oxygen.

Then (clicketty clicketty clack), I thought "who needs oxygen?" Sporty people, obviously. I know everyone needs it, but sporty people need it more because when they do sport they respire more and so they need more oxygen.

Sporty people are fit because they use lots of oxygen (whooo-eeeee). I use lots of oxygen to clear the alcohol from my system. Therefore, I must be fit because I'm using lots of oxygen, just like sporty people.

I never realised until now I could drink myself fit. My lifestyle rocks.

    Love it
There are books written about breathing and the power of oxygen.
My mum edited a good book some years ago on this. Its totally underestimated.

Yup, science is our friend again here. Our body changes the yummy ethanol into painful ethanoic acid. (When you exercise too much, the pain in your muscles is caused by lactic acid made by metabolising sugar without alcohol: the ethanoic your body makes from metabolising ethanol is all around your bloodstream going to every cell, so the pain is "all over".)

Organic acids, such as ethanoic and lactic, are classed as weak acids. These acids react with fats to create a new substance, called a lipid. Lipids are really, really useful to the body as they form the cell membrane, although we can make these membranes with just fats (as many fats are lipids in the first place). Lipids don't hurt our bodies the way acids do. Oil, however, isn't a lipid, which is why fried food is great for releaving the hangover symptoms.
