    Finger picking

Anyone know how to stop it ? Its a bit of a mixture of boredom and stress I have been seeing a psych for anxiety and depression but hasn't actually thought to talk to her about it

I do it too can.not.stop but te best thing I have done is start getting my nails done. It's harder to pick with thicker nails and I'm less likely to ruin my hands when they look nicer.

I do it too. Often at night while asleep. Always until they bleed

It's odd but I stopped during both pregnancies and then started again straight after.

I don't finger pick, but I do chew my lip. What helps for me is when I catch myself doing it, it's a sign that I'm tired and need to rest, or that I need to do some mindfulness practices. Which is like distracting yourself, but paying full attention to yourself while you're doing it.

For the overnight picking, could you maybe wear some light cotton gloves? If you slap some moisturiser on beforehand you'll get the added benefit of an overnight beauty treatment.

I've been finger picking all my life on and off- quite bad at the moment for some reason. Can't help you with stopping, if I knew I would too. Seems to be a nervous habit for me also, but I think cos I am not working atm its boredom as well, cos I'm not stressed currently.
I took up knitting to give my hands something to do in the evening which helps.

I've been putting band aids over the fingers I use to pick so my nails are covered and therefore can't pick here's hoping it works

I do it too. Mine bleed also but I would love to know a solution. I dont and can't have acrylic nails anymore so that won't help me either!

Wow and I thought I was the only one who did this.
I have found I tend to do it most when stressed about something.

Mine are really bad at the moment. We are moving back to oz and I'm packing and stressing and totally eating my fingers! They are so gross. I always just have to get that little BIT which turns into a bigger bit, then a bit more.

When I'm back home I'm going to get my shellac nails back on as that seems to stop all the picking for me, and my nails grow really quickly. They're probably relieved.

    It's such a sucky habit
