If not this then what other options?

Sorry for the vague thread title! Am a bit paranoid about searches and stuff!

    Bit of a TMI ahead.

So last night DH and I got back in the saddle, so to speak. As we've learned that the mini pill stuffs me round a bit hormonally, we just used the traditional old condom. However, when we came to the actual ahem penetrative bit, it hurt. Not in a "just had a baby, still recovering" kind of way, but in a burning, irritated kind of way.

Does this sound like a possible allergy? We never really used condoms before kids so I'm not sure if I had an allergy before or not, but I know allergies can change with time and stuff. DH stopped, took it off and immediately it felt a little better but still burn-y.

What other options do we have? DH is going to get the snip soon but he doesn't want to be banned til then! Me, with the five-week old waking at night etc, isn't so fussed but can't ignore DH's needs now!

Don't want to use implanon or IUD either. Are there condoms that don't have latex? Rhythm has worked for us in past but I don't have a cycle yet so that's not going to work...

I can't tolerate condoms - its very burny and its a once then not again for a fortnight kind of thing because it takes that long for the discomfort to go away. I think you can get some that aren't latex

Can't offer any suggestions - DH had the snip last Friday and except for one time since Miss A's birth five months ago he's been worshipping me from afar ;-) I'm waaaaaay too tired

Have you got a UTI or thrush? Or had you 'been close' recently? I find that being a bit grazed or swollen makes the condom burny...

Far as I'm aware no UTI or thrush. Certainly no other symptoms of them anyway. No action anywhere near that region either before last night!

Lu, "worshipping from afar", we've had a bit of that too

I have my six week check on Monday, I'll definitely be asking these questions then... But thought I'd see if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Ahh ok just checking as lots of women complain of burning and pain etc as use condoms without extra lube so thought would check!!

You could look at a Nuva ring or Diaphragm until he has a snip.

Condoms sting for me, so we can't use them.

Never tried a diaphragm or foam or spermicides, but they're all other options.

    Or there's a "ring" a few friends use ...

Or the quarterly injection - not sure whether that's ok when bf though.

Or of course, there's throwing caution to the wind and making room for #4 ...

Maybe dryness due to breastfeeding? I find even with plenty of lube when breastfeeding it is definitely dryer which could cause that feeling. Hope it eases up.

you can get latex free condoms. I had the same thing after baby number two, we had to use latex free for a while. Baby number three I never had any issues at all (odd) Get DH to ask at a chemist about it!

Also have you tried "silk" lube, it's natural and may also 'help"

Firstly, congrats at getting back in the saddle :-) we've Just 'saddled up' too!
Burning- mmmm could also be the chemical that is put on condoms to kill sperm.
A latex allergy seems to come with symptoms that aren't Just localized to the area of contact.
Lube wise- cant recommend highly enough Pjur Woman Bodyglide. It's a silicone lube that doesn't dry out. Bit exxy but you don't need to use much. Available from 'Passionfruit' The sensuality shop in Richmond, Melbourne.
Good luck honey, let us know how it goes.

    Thanks for all the advice!

Will be asking about that three month injection, that could be perfect as DH think he'll go for the snip in Jan so that might work well!

Peanutter - shush! No more for us

exclusively breastfeeding with no period provides as much protection as the mini pill.

could you have reacted to the lube rather than the doms?

i have to find something seeing as natural methods got us 2 beautiful children.

Yep HotI I'm pretty convinced I won't ovulate for a little while yet but I just don't want to have an oops... With DD my cycle returned at 5mths and I just don't want to risk it happening earlier, as I know it has for some people!

Could be a reaction to the condom but could also be hormone related hun, I had terrible pain for about a year after both of mine, even with heaps of lube simply because breastfeeding hormones made me extra dry and senstive. You can use a cream but if it is that, however it said it COULD slightly reduce milk supply so I never did. I got pg with DS with no period when DD was 8 mths old! Implanon might be an option too??

You're in good company though ...

We still haven't decided ... I know better, but we just haven't been using protection ... maybe I secretly do want #3 ...

What are the injections like, clover? You were bf too, yes? Anything OP (or I ...) need to be aware of?
