Yay! Got a cot for Mack! Yay (again), now he will have somewhere to sleep, aside from wth me, all. The. Time. Or in the rocker.... The Man picked it up today for me after I measured to make sure our mattress fits (perfectly by the way!), from the local Salvos store. It has the adjustable height base. It just needs going over to tighten screws up, and obviously a good clean. I will have a closer look at it tonight/tomorrow, I suspect maybe some of the screw holes should he filled in and re drilled, and maybe new screws. It's timber, so I am tossing up whether or not to paint it white, maybe doing a white wash over the grain, or just giving it a coat of varnish. Or just wax after its all cleaned up. Thoughts? I don't need to coordinate it with anything else, just thought white (either as a wash or solid) would help our house seem less cluttered (if I start painting our few other things white too). And would look nicer?
Our house has no set style, and I like the shabby chic look, so maybe this is a way to start. Then on DD's loft bed. And then some shelves....
Lol Sunny. I will defer the carousel cake for now....
I am not really a fan of the really dark stained nursery sets. My Mum has a number of very darkly stained furniture items at her place, and aside from showing up dust and fingerprints, they seem a bit overbearing. Granted, dust shows up on white too.
Well I had a good look at the now dismantled cot this morning. A metal fitting has been lost off it between me seeing it at the store the other day and it getting into the car. I have let the Man know, hopefully he will go back to the store to see if it is still there. The cot is barely varnished pine, for some reason I couldn't see this in the store, I'll just say it was *really* bad light! So, I could just sand it all down and revarnish it. It desn't even have any bite marks on it, which I was surprised at.
I do wonder though. I have a little container of beeswax, wth eucalyptus in it. It's labelled as suitable for timber furniture, and also foodsafe. So, would it be appropriate to use on a cot? Thanks.
