Gifts that make you go.... huh?

Yes, christmas is about the joy of giving. About being with family, enjoying a special meal and for some, celebrating their religious beliefs.

This thread is about receiving... specifically, receiving gifts which make you go.... huh??!

Yesterday, my IL's (whom I don't get along with) gave me four coffee pods. For a coffee machine which I don't own. Not sure what I am supposed to do with them! And it's not that they didn't realise that I don't own an appropriate machine. My MIL actually commented 'oh, I know you don't have the right machine for those pods, but I thought you might like them anyway'. Uh huh. No. What to do with them? I am considering keeping them for MIL's birthday... and giving them back to her. I will wrap them up, just as she did for me, and comment on the fact that she will never be able to use them... but that I thought she might like them any way!

    What did you get?

Lol that's totally random. I didn't get anything strange for Xmas. But I did get a random birthday present a few weeks ago from my grandma. A teatowel. Yep.

That truly is random! I would give them back too! last year I got several strange presents but this year I've been lucky, only pot plants from 2 different people...their days are numbered with my severe lack of green thumb.

Gifts that make you go.... huh?

That's...different. Lol!! I'd give them back later on too, that's just weird!

In keeping with the MIL theme, she gave DH, DD1 and I those plug in, motion sensing lights you see the ads for on telly (from Bunnings I believe). I was like, err, thanks? I asked her not to buy myself anything (DH she can if she wants, it's her son) but I guess she couldn't resist giving me the light? Dunno, I found it an odd gift but I guess I'll plug it in somewhere...although we only live in a small 2 bed unit, I don't know if we really need 3 of them!

Lol... no. Definitely no machine coming! In the past I have been gifted a romance book my MIL had clearly read (multiple breaks in the spine, dog eared pages) which was not even the genre I enjoy - which she would know, given my bookshelves full of crime. Then there was the year she wrapped me up an OPENED packet of biscuits, or the Andre Rieu DVD I had previously seen sitting on her telly - she gifted me that very copy.

my DH got be a TINY bikini. this thing barely covers one butt cheek. there is no way in hell I will be wearing it out in public plus the top is defiantly not for post baby boobs. it's for perky 15-30 non breastfeed boobs. He is pretty upset I don't like it but if I don't feel comfortable how can I wear it

Uhh... that's weird. FIL bought lots of little bits for the kids to fill gift bags and lots of it was inapropriate... but the thought was there and I honestly didn't expect him to know what to get them. But MINTIES for a 16 month old?? Err. No.

But then he's the guy who, literally minutes after we'd been having a conversation about DS being dairy intolerant, was feeding DS custard. Seriously.

Nickle, you could always take it as an excuse to buy the coffee machine and then thank her graciously for the idea. After all, it would be a shame to waste such a thoughtful gift, no?

It's been a long while since I've fit into a size 14 undies, but I appreciated the compliment from my mother in law.
