Drinking water from sippy cup - what age to do it independently?
Just wondering at what age your child was able to hold and drink from a sippy cup by themselves. My son is 9.5 months and has not worked out he needs to tilt the cup to get the water out. I am freaked out because his speech pathologist is coming to assess him again because of this. He was originally seeing her because of food refusal though is eating fine now.
It took my DS1 ages to figure it out. I think he was closer to 12 months. DS2 was a bit quicker at about 9months. It's just lots of practice and promoting I think.

Late. She never really 'got' a sippy cup, and only really 'got' a straw cup at like 13 months, before that we had to kind of hold it up to her mouth for her. Now she drinks from her straw cup most of the time, or a normal plastic cup. Fwiw DD1 is 'ahead' in speech development, so I wouldn't worry too much if possible

Only recently, DS is nearly 12 mo and only learnt to tilt his cup about a month ago. He would make us hold it for him. He point blank refuses to hold his bottle himself - he knows how he just doesn't want to do it lol.
Time and practice, and making a game of it always helps. GL
Interesting to read! DD2 has been doing it since around 5 months but she is a little copy cat and so follows anything we show her.
DD1 didn't really get stuff like that till later though, can't remember when but closer to 1. She does have speech issues but not sure if that is related.
Sounds like there is quite a wide spread of normal.
I tried sippy cups for ages with limited success. At around 11 months I got DD one with a straw and she got it straight away. She was so excited and pleased with herself!
