    Masquerade party

I have been invited to a masquerade party. Immediate yay from me because I love costume parties . However I then find out the kids are invited too and now I am slightly panicked. What sort of kids costumes will be ok? They have heaps of superhero, star wars, etc costumes, would they be appropriate?

Also, too cliche to have girltwin in a mini version of my outfit? I'm going as a ladybird.

    Masquerade party

How Awesome! Anything with a mask is fine. I'd probably don my wedding dress and go buy a Venetian mask. I would love to own a wall of them some day. Or maybe display cabinet. They'd be a PITA to dust.

ETA: Ohhhhh ladybird! I geddit now. Derp.

I was thinking my new hellpixie dress with a matching mask (and my mini-me in similar) something like this http://worldoffancydress.com/images/...rd%2040019.jpg. We'll make the masks ourselves from Spotlight which has all the basic ingredients. You think the boys would be ok with some scary masks and just trousers/shirts. DH is easy enough, he can wear a suit but I'm just so stuck with the etiquette for 5 - 8 year old boys.

Sounds like a fantastic party. I think wahtever they have should be fine or if you need an activity to fill the last week of the holidays spotlight sell the plain masks and they could bling up their own in a crafty afternoon activity?

I think that's great! Just check if its formal or not? If it is. Button up shirt, pants, vest and a cape. Otherwise a lot of cheap costumes at spotlight for vamps that have the vest/cloak in one an all you need is pants.

So a message from the host, he is going formal but the kids are welcome to wear whatever so I think I'll just put them in shirts and trousers with whatever masks they like. Maybe vampire or animal ones? Girltwin will love something with feathers and sequins and it should be easy enough to find something for DH and I.

I'm excited, it's going to be fun making these masks, especially with two months notice.

I love the ladybug idea for you & your DD. would it be too creepy to put the boys in alternative insect costumes/masks? Bees, ****roaches, spiders, ants come to mind.

Jealous. I've always wanted to go to a masquerade ball, a la Labyrinth or Venice Mardi Gra.
