    Passport Application/renewal

For want of a better place to put this...

Am in the process of renewing DH and my passports.

My understanding is that as we are renewing we don't need to go through the whole frigamarole of getting people to sign photos and saying how long that they've know us - we just front up at Australia Post with our forms and photos and have an interview.

This being the case, does anyone know if they will take the photos at the same time, ie at the interview or do we need to go in separately to get that done? It would obviously make sense to do it all at once but when I book the interview online it says we need to bring the pics with us.

Has anyone done this lately and can shed some light?

    Thanks

DH did his about a week ago.
He couldn't fill out the form online for some reason so they had to post it to him. He made the PO appointment online and got to the post office 15 minutes before his interview to get his photos taken. No dramas.
They won't take you photo at the interview - you do need to get there early.

Hmmm... I renewed ours not long ago. Photos are your responsibility, you need to get the taken and witnessed by having someone sign the back. Details of who can witness are on the application form. From memory, you still need to eat your application for renewal witnessed as well. The appointment at the post office is pretty straightforward, you just need to take ID with you. I did app,y for DD2's passport at the same time so a bit hazy on what was for a new passport and what was for renewal!! It was not difficult, and all explained on the form.

Eta Zazou didn't he have to have the photos witnessed? I'm sure we did...

For the renewal you just need to bring a photo with your name on the back. No witnesses. But...... it is conditional. You have to bring your current passport, it has to be in date or recently expired and it has to be issued for your current name and gender.

DH was able to get his passport renewal & photos done at the same time. He was near the post office so he just dropped in to make the appointment and since they weren't busy & he had the paperwork with him, they did it then & there. We filled out the form online and had it posted as the printing requirements were very strict so we thought, if we have it posted, it should be right. It didn't take long at all and he didn't need the photos witnessed as it was just a renewal. Thanks for reminding me, mine's expired now so this is something I need to add to my neverending to do list .

For a renewal, no witnessing of the photos is needed. The AusPost staff can take your photo at the same time as processing your renewal.
All you need is the renewal form and your current/expired within 2 years passport. And money
