TTing and fingers where they really shouldn't be (bit of vent)

We started TTing DS2 the week before Christmas. Other than the odd wee in his pants every now and then because he's too busy doing something else (plus bedtime nappy) he's virtually TTed. BUT. He's discovered he has more, er, holes than those of his mouth and ears. I've just done my lolly at him because he weed his pants on the upstairs carpet less than two minutes after I asked him if he wanted to go the toilet ("no" - are you sure? "yes, I don't want to go to toilet". Note to self, rephrase to "do you need to do a wee? No? Well you're going to anyway!"). After stripping him off, cleaning the carpet I then find him sitting on the couch with a finger partly in his rear end . Ewwwwww!!!!!!!!!!! And it's not the first time. Since his nappy has come off, we've found he's very interested in his bottom and said finger often creeps towards said orifice. I am not an impressed mummy (and we didn't go through this with DS1 so I have no prior experience).

Am I totally overreacting? Logic tells me it's possibly normal for some little boys to treat their penis and bum post-nappy as a novelty. But it's a really gross kinda normal, if it is. And what if it's not normal????? My boys have never been exposed to anything that would even remotely make them want to put fingers in lower-body places!

Someone tell me to chill out, please! It's doing my head in, but if I'm not on my own then at least I can accept it as part of DS2 working out his body. It's just that next time I'll put a new pair of undies on him mighty quickly !

Since we've toilet trained I feel like I'm constantly asking him to stop touching his penis. Once he asked for my help to make it flat.

I think men continue to play with their bits all their lives, they just get better at hiding it.

Oh Andy I had a good laugh at your story!!! We are going through the exact same thing ATM with our DS. We are TT right now too, and since the nappy came off the finger tends to graviate towards the back entrance more and more. What's worse, we get that finger stuck up our noses a dozen times a day sometimes, with a 'poo-wee' comment. I try not too scold him for it too much, I think it's just a stage. He did it in front of my neighbour once though, he ran out half naked and showed her his smelly finger. She was laughing so much when he wasn't looking, she made me see the funny side.

(ahhhhhh ...... that's a big sigh of relief). Thank you Miss B. You made ME laugh, and your post is helping me accept his behaviour a bit more. I'd "hoped" it was relatively normal behaviour. Gawd, boys really can be gross little creatures at times, can't they!

Just wait until you have two in the bath... I caught one of my sons trying to put his finger in his brothers... hole!

Oh dear! Well, my two older boys have bathed/showered together since DS2 could sit unassisted. So far they've kept their fingers to themselves, albeit the occasional poke of the brother's willy. Boys, huh?

I'll start getting worried Andie if he's still doing it in primary school or later! hahahaha. Seriously, I think the whole process of getting rid of the nappy gives them something else to play with apart from the sausage. Don't get me started on that! lol.

Totally normal. I am constantly telling my now 4 1/2 year old, to get his hands out of his pants (front and back!) and to wash them afterwards! My 2 year old is slowly toilet training too, and is becoming more and more fascinated with his penis and bottom.

I have taken to telling him he can touch himself when he's in his room or in private, but it's not appropriate to touch it when other people are around (especially me, it's rather disturbing to see my 4 year old with an erection!)

Thankfully I haven't experienced any poking of siblings bits yet!

ohhhh boys. DS1 only tried to touch his bottom and I told him off so sternly that he's never ventured there again. The penis was quite fascinating there for awhile, but he knows now it's a bath or bedtime toy.

But now that I've read this I just know number two will go for the bottom. He does everything number one didn't. Fantastic!

I don't think boys are any more feral than girls.

Agreed. I remember one of my older sister's friend (she was about seven at the time) sticking her finger in her bottom and pulling out some poo in the bath.

Oh dear!!!! Maybe I've been lucky with my DD then... So far!

Possibly it isn't fair to say boys are feral, I should say my boy seems more feral than my girl

I remember when DS was freshly toilet trained (we did the 3 day potty training method, and DS was pretty much trained the second day), I remarked to DH that I thought he toilet trained quickly just so that he didn't have to wear a nappy any more and had better access to his willy!! PMSL

I also remember asking DH if it was normal how fascinated and how much DS played with his willy. DH laughed and said it was just a faze, that would pass in about 60 or so YEARS LOL

    So yes, very normal

For all I know, girls are ten times grosser than boys. But I still think little boys can be gross and feral

Thanks for the "ewwwws" and the laughs ladies. You make me feel a whole lot better about my boy, his bum and his finger

ETA: I bags the book title "my boy, his bum and his finger". There's gotta be a best seller in that ....
