    Epigastric Hernia

Does anyone have a child with an epigastric hernia? or had one repaired?

My son has had this since birth (however, no doctor has ever mentioned it), and it hasn't grown or caused any discomfort. Its a small pea-sized soft lump between his ribs and his belly button, just left of the midline. I was just wondering if I should consider getting it repaired at some stage.

    Cheers!

That sounds very similar to what my DS1 has. He is 7 and he has 3 lumps. they are always there. sometimes painful and sometimes not. The are soft and for the most part they dont worry him/us.
We have had cat scans and ultrasounds to find out what they were but nobody here knows.
Our hernia dept said they would remove them if we want but DS1 doesnt want

    Ok. Thanks.

My husband had a small internal (Diaphragmatic) hernia that was really difficult to diagnose when he was an adult. He had intermittent intense pain that could last for a few days. He ended up having a huge surgery to find it & repair it in his 20's.

Maybe next time we're at the GP I'll ask them. Dr Google isn't being helpful at all!!

I have read mixed things. Some say you should get the surgery so the muscle can heal- I understand that and it makes sense.
Other say leave it- if its not sore or anything just leave it.

I havent heard of them getting better by themselves but like I said, DS1 doesnt want surgery so...

Our GP is pretty awesome these days, so I reckon he'll probably do his funny head wobble & shoulder shrug, and recommend to do nothing.
