Cyst on ovary

I had an ultrasound two days ago which showed I have an 8cm cyst on my left ovary. The sonographer (sp?) didn't say much other than my surgeon will most likely remove it when I have my tubal ligation in approx 8 weeks.

Is that a big size for a cyst? Should I be concerned? I have been having sharp stabbing pains on the left side most of the morning, some that take my breath away, am I at risk of it bursting?

I know nothing about cysts and have never had one so please excuse my ignorance... Any information will be greatly appreciated!

[Catastrophic]

I've had one every time I have am ultrasound the last was a 5cm on my left side. Ive never really notices them until the dr mentions it. It's quite normal.
