    Doppler

Did you buy/hire a Doppler in your pregnancy after your loss? Did it make you more or less paranoid? Any recommendations on brand? I feel the need to get one to monitor things more closely this time but worried it might send me crazy at the same time...

I hired one from "bellybeat" which I ended up purchasing .. It is a proper one like midwifes use , so it works without fail everytime from early on , I have had a cheaper one from eBay before but it never worked properly . This has been amazing , worked every time ad is very comforting and reassuring to have ..

I think it totally depends on your personality! I love mine and I know without it I would have gone crazy this pregnancy and been a lot more anxious... but I have always been able to find my heartbeat very easily from 9.5 weeks and when i couldn't find it before then I knew it was becasue it was too early so it didn't worry me. I'm now starting to feel movement but for that period between 10 weeks and when you feel movement it is really helpful I think. I check in every day but only for a few seconds. I can totally understand how someone may totally disaagree with me though and say that it increases anxiety, but I can only speak for myself. I hired mine with previous pregnancies but bought one this time off ebay. I was worried it wouldn't be as good quality (from China) but it is exact;y the same as those you hire. I think it cost about $60-$80. Hope that helps. Good luck, hope your pregnancy goes smoothly!

I've got one for this pregnancy but didn't for DD's. Got it from eBay, and it's actually pretty good. I try not to use it too much, but now I'm able to pick up (what I'm 90% sure is) a heartbeat, I've found myself doing it for the novelty rather than holding off nervousness. Which I know is a stupid thing to do I can't help myself sometimes! I'm not one to worry too much, but it is nice having that reassurance. I expect I'll use it less when bub starts moving properly, and only when s/he's having low movement days... Plus having midwife appointments more often as time goes by means I won't really have to use my own so much. They're better at it and will probably check every appointment

In short, get one if you want, but try not to overdo it. You could end up making yourself more nervous if you can't find bub right away. Remember, even people who have been trained to use professional ones can have a hard time sometimes!

If its going to help with peace of mind I would get one. Only thing is a Doppler will only tell you bub is alive not weather it is distressed or not so if you have any concerns I would not rely on the Doppler as reassurance. I have heard of a few situations where women have had false reassurance from a home Doppler and had a poor outcome as they have not seeked medical advice for various reasons so I think its always important to ensure it's not going to replace getting check out if you have any concerns about lack of movement etc.
I got one with my last due to bad anxiety caused from infertility. I didn't buy it until I was 37weeks and had my DD a few days later but I really wanted it for when labour started so I felt more comfortable staying at home during those early labour bits.

Hello all, I forgot to write back and just wanted to thank you for your replies. I ended up using one and I am waiting for it to arrive...if anything, it will help me get through the time of waiting for regular movement...note to self - try not to obsess!
