How do you toilet train a boy?

How do you toilet train a boy? Do you do it the same as a girl, just keep putting them on the potty/toilet... do they sit? What happens about spirtage? Clueless mummy! lol.

DS sat on the potty and then later moved to sitting on the toilet. We told him to point his penis into the bowl and hold it down so it wouldn't cause any spillage.

It wasn't till a fair while later that he started standing up to pee. He is 6 now (trained when he was 3) and only sits down to pee in the middle of the night because otherwise it goes everywhere because he doesn't turn the light on.

Ds sat at first as he wasn't tall enough but after a few months he started to stand he would lean right over but he could do it.

Ds1 is 2.5yo and has been TT for about 6 months, we started by sitting him on the potty reminding him to 'tuck it in' his potty then converted to a seat you put on the toilet and a step and he would sit on the toilet now he stands on his step and 'wees like daddy'

I asked everyone I knew too! DS still sits on the toilet to pee, but I'm sure he'll stand one day! We tell him to hold it down and havent had more than a drop spill out. He still has trouble even getting up on his stool to sit down by himself, so standing is out of the question yet. A friend bought a 'wee man' that clips onto the front of the toilet bowl and her DS stood from day one. You could google it if you're interested.

Ds sits. He is too short to stand but too tall if hes on the step lol I remind him to hold his penis down so he doesnt get his pants wet. Weve never had an issue with spillage.

Both my boys were toilet trained sitting and told to point their penis down - sometimes they held it down. I wish they'd never started standing up as their aim is shocking!! We have one of those wee targets, but still... I'm forever cleaning up after them. 9 times of 10 it's just laziness and/or not bothering to concentrate Weeing outside is probably the easiest place to teach standing up wees. The aim doesn't matter so much and they get the hang of it all.

DS1 sat to wee at first, but would only sit on a toilet, not a potty, I think because we use toilets and he wanted to be the same. He started standing to wee when the other boys at day care were standing to wee.

DS2 also sat to wee at first but not for long. As soon as he was tall enough (and probably even before he was tall enough), he peed standing up, to be like his brother.

There's a lot to be said for imitation.

Now if anyone has the secret to getting a 6yo and 8yo to always get the wee IN the toilet, please let me know.

Depends how tall they are or how low your toilet is lol. Ds was fully trained before he was 2 but he was as tall as my 4 year old dd so he started standing to wee. It worked for us because he modeled on his dad and liked being grown up. We also have toilet steps and had to coax him to sit long enough to poo but it only took a week. We have had the odd occasion where he is standing to do a wee and then realizes he needs to poo. It is messy if you're not on hand to help

DS is 28 months and has been day tt for about 2 months now, and he has never sat to pee. He has stood from day one of his own preference, he just stands over the potty or if he uses a big toilet he uses a stool or I stand him on the seat. The smaller kid size toilets he is jusssssttt tall enough to reach as normal lol
