I have psoriasis and can't use my usual cream because im breastfeeding. I couldn't use it in pregnancy either so it's quite bad at the moment. I use a medicated emollient called Exorex. It's the only thing that works for me.
Thanks so much! I have coconut oil on hand so will give that a go. I really should get an appointment with the visiting dermatologist and get a professional view.
Tasha, that sucks Hun Hope it eases soon x
I usually take slippery elm bark powder but haven't any on hand ATM.
Can I ask you lovely ladies how bad your psoriasis is?
DH has terrible psoriasis, it's all over his body, mainly his scalp, elbows, knees, lower back, but they are huge patches and he has spots all over his body poor thing.
It drives him nuts and nothing keeps it under control. He uses elicon lotion, davibet cream but it does nothing to reduce it.
We are looking into more extreme treatments such as the uv treatments etc but if there's something natural that actually works I'd love to know!
Sounds horrid Mine is only mild, I can spend most of the year without being affected then it will flare up out of the blue. I get it on my hands (which totally sucks as even bending fingers is painful let alone actually doing things ) also on my elbows, knees and inner thighs. It always flares up on my hands first, followed by elbows then knees.
I was managing it at home fine until the last few flare ups when I ended up seeing a naturopath to help. A change in diet and some cream (she made it herself) did wonders and it cleared up within about a week. For me dairy is a big culprit, to not only skin but also gut problems.
Hope you can get it sorted x

: "Dairy" not "diary" lol
jaycee, years ago i had a big guttate flare up and was 80% covered. the only thing that cleared such a big area was methotrexate. natural remedies are fickle though because what works for some dont work for others so its often trial and error
When I was younger my skin specialist said it was the worst he'd ever seen and took photos for his teaching. Dairysal is the only thing that clears mine up. It's a cattle ointment. I put it on of a night and put socks/gloves/cling wrap on my feet, hands and scalp, stinks but does the job! You can order it through vets..
Gosh I feel like I've tried everything.
Funny you mention dairysal No.5, my dad had great success with pure lanolin. Me, not so much.
I agree, coconut oil has helped me, and mine isn't so bad in the last few years since I moved to UV central in Central Australia. I can't help but get a huge dose every day and not I only notice it's really bad in winter when I'm less likely to have ventured outside.
I also notice that too much sugar sets me off so maybe a good look at his diet?
I try to have lots of omegas. I eat chia seeds/LSA every day, take linseed capsules and try to eat as much avo/good oil nuts and oily fish as I can.
I have it on my scalp. The treatment that's worked for me is a probiotic strain. It's made by Metagenics and is available from naturopaths.
I was sceptic all but it works really well and I'm breastfeeding so I imagine its safe in pg too.
I'll check the name and update ASAP.
