Tomorrow is cd 58 for me, and I have an ultrasound booked in for the arvo to have a look at what is going on down there. I have a history of polycystic ovaries, and due to the length of my cycle, I decided to take action by changing my diet and exercise routine.
It seems to have worked and I have managed to jump start my ovaries, and I am about to or already have ovulated, yay! (based on cm which is generally pretty accurate for me). So my question is, is is safe to have an internal ultrasound in the tww? Could anything be dislodged or damaged? Many thanks in advance xo
I had a full pelvic Ultrasound not so long ago. I have only ever had two and they were pretty similar, but I'm sure that other BB ladies will have had more varied experiences.
I went to a specific Women's Diagnostic clinic and the whole process took about 2 hours. Firstly they did an external u/s across my belly and kidneys. For the internal they used a probe which was not too thick and said they will only insert it as far a tampon would go. They then move the probe left to right and up and down to capture images at different angles. Not in and out, so not much chance of anything being dislodged IMHO.
It is not all the way inside you, does not need to be. If you are concerned ask the sonographer lots of questions - they should explain everything in lots of detail so that you feel 100% comfortable.
Sorry, I forgot to add that I was also in the TTW (AF came the next day). They ask a lot a questions about which CD you are, are you TTC etc and didn't say to me that it was unsafe at all.
Thanks for sharing your experience Joski. My gut feel is that it will be fine, women have ultrasounds all the time during pregnancy, but I can't help but feel anxious as I have waited so long to ovulate this cycle, and I don't want to harm my chances of falling pregnant.
The probe shouldnt go anywhere near your cervix... unless its sitting really low. The little spermies would have already made their way up through the cervix so you should be fine. Like the previous poster said, the sonographer will be very gentle, it will be nothing like having sex, which a lot of people do in the 2ww and early pregnancy and beyond! Good luck and I hope ur heading back there in a few weeks for a dating scan!
Thanks Reet. I asked the sonographer and he said it was perfectly safe. Ultrasound was as I expected, a polycystic left ovary, and my right ovary had a 16mm dominant follicle. So fingers crossed dh and catch the egg this month.
Thanks for stopping by Gee Whizzy! All those photos Clare posts on FB definitely make me cluckier than I already am, and yes I would love her to photograph our next munchkin. Would be a nice link to dd i think in a roundabout kind of way. Hope all is well with you hun xo
