I am travelling overseas with my 9 month old in 10 days. His Dad is not travelling with us.
Am I required to carry some sort of letter of permission from his Dad that says I can take him out of the country? Is there a template for this? I've googled but nothing in Australia comes up.
To the best of my knowledge, you do not need to carry a letter. Your child will have their own passport which both parents signed for order for it to be issued. Unless you are have Court Orders which prevent (or in some cases allow) travel to certain countries, usually those not covered by The Hague Convention, there is no reason why you should be stopped from travelling.
I would suggest contacting the Smart Traveller/ Department of Immigration (depending on who you get bounced to) and having a chat with them if you have any concerns about proceeding through immigration/customs when you depart.
If your baby has a different surname it'd make life easier to have a letter from dad with a phone number so he can be contacted if needs be. A stat dec is probably the best way to do this, get a JP to witness the signature.
You both have to sign for the passport so that is all that you will need. If you and your child are listed on an airport watch list to stop you leaving the country you will be stopped but that only happens in breaks up generally... Sounds like you are still with his dad you just aren't traveling with him?
I'm not with his dad, but I have his permission to travel (and a passport). Archie and I have different surnames so I think I will just get a letter signed by a JP to save any possible hassles.
