Posting for a friend who has just had her 4.5 month old diagnosed with adenoids. He always has a chesty cough, mucous, and just generally unwell poor little guy. He has been sick twice already and cried almost all day yesterday. They were told there was nothing they can do about it until he is 7 years old and have them removed. She is getting next to no sleep because he can only breath through his mouth, but he sucks his thumb to sleep
I suggested she get a referral to see an ear, nose and throat specialist.
My nephew had his tonsils and adenoids out at 3yo. He was having episodes when sleeping where he was stopping breathing. I believe they had a sleep study done and based on that the surgery was given a go ahead. Hope that helps. I would definitely get the opinion of an ENT.
I had a nephew who had them taken out between 2-3 yr old as he wasn't eating enough as they were enlarged and he was snoring a lot - ENT was seen to take them out
Yep, definitely get a referral to an ENT. My DS2 had his adenoids removed when he was 2yrs old.
He had them removed and grommets inserted due to reoccurring ear infections resulting in glue ear. The ENT decided to remove the adenoids to help with drainage after the first lot of grommets did not last that long.
DS1 had his out at 13 months. Definitely get her to get a referral to an ENT, they will do the op if the benefits outweigh the risk, and in your friends case, I'd say that'd be likely!
